Bengaluru: A student created a fake email id in the name of a Kannada actor and sent a bomb threat email to postpone the upcoming tests.

A day after a hoax bomb threat email was sent the management, students, and parents of National Hill View Public School into a confounded state, the Rajarajeshwari Nagar police tracked it down to a class 10th student who studied in the same school who had sent the mail from his father’s laptop to postpone his upcoming tests.

The police said that the boy had created a fake email id in the name of a Kannada actor Huccha Venkat and mailed the letter on Sunday. But the boy panicked as soon as the police had deployed the bomb squad and anti-sabotage teams to comb the area. The police tracked down the IP address and confronted the boy to which he confessed that it was his doing.

Lakshman Nimbaragi, DCP, West Division, said that the school had announced the commencement of unit tests from July 21. The boy was not prepared for it and was afraid that he would fail. He planned to send the hoax email in order to postpone the tests.

The boy attended the school on Monday and said to his friends that the tests are going to be postponed but his friends didn’t take him seriously thinking that he was playing a prank, said the police.

“The boy is meritorious and is liked by all the teachers and staff in his school. The parents are embarrassed and shocked by this. The boy thought that the tests would be postponed and never anticipated the repercussion”, senior police said.

“Considering his background and his future, we have decided to counsel him and his parents and take an undertaking from them according to the procedure to close the case”, the officer added.

The entire school was blanketed with panic as soon as the staff opened the email on Monday and alerted the police. The school shifted nearly 1,500 children and staff to an adjacent school for safety and police combed the entire area to make sure that the premises were safe and declared that the email was a hoax. The school declared a day’s holiday.
