Kolkata: St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK), is set to make a significant stride in technical education with the establishment of the Xavier’s School of Engineering and Technology (XSET). The new school will officially begin its academic journey in 2026, offering a range of contemporary B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) programs designed to prepare students for the rapidly evolving technology sector.
The inaugural programs under XSET will include:
- Computer Science and Engineering
- Information Technology
- Electronics and Communication Engineering
- Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning)
This marks a major expansion for St. Xavier’s University, which is already recognized for its strong academic foundations in Commerce, Humanities, Law, and Management. By introducing emerging disciplines such as AI and Machine Learning, the university aims to strengthen its role in shaping industry-ready professionals equipped with future-oriented skills.
According to university officials, state-of-the-art infrastructure is currently under development to support the new school, including a dedicated building for classrooms, laboratories, and workshops. Each B.Tech program is expected to accommodate around 60 students, ensuring quality education and personalized academic engagement.
The admission process for these programs is being finalized. The university is considering options such as conducting its own entrance examination or accepting students through the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) framework.
