Chennai, September 22, 2026: SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) welcomed a new cohort of 250 MBBS and 100 BDS students at the Induction Ceremony for Freshers 2026 held at the Dr. T. P. Ganesan Auditorium, Kattankulathur. The ceremony marked the beginning of the students’ academic and professional journey in healthcare, with emphasis on excellence, ethics, compassion and service.
The ceremony brought together SRMIST leadership, faculty members, students and parents. Prof. V. B. Narayana Murthy, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at Kauvery Hospital, Alwarpet, Chennai, attended the event as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the newly inducted students, Prof. (Dr.) Jayanthi R, Dean, SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, highlighted the institution’s focus on academic excellence, research and innovation, mentorship and holistic development.

Chief Guest Highlights Importance of Humility and Responsibility
Delivering the Chief Guest Address, Prof. V. B. Narayana Murthy, emphasised the responsibility associated with entering the medical profession.
“The white coat is an immense honour, but with that responsibility and pride comes humility and honesty. You may become a doctor, but at the end of the day, you have to be very humble. While dealing with patients, you have to be very mindful,” he said.
The message highlighted the importance of maintaining humility, honesty and sensitivity while interacting with patients and carrying out professional responsibilities.
Hippocratic Oath Administered
The ceremony also featured a Special Address by Prof. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor, SRMIST, and a welcome address by Dr. T. Mythili, Additional Registrar, MSL, SRMIST.
A key part of the induction ceremony was the administration of the Hippocratic Oath, led by Prof. (Dr.) Jayanthi R. The oath symbolised the students’ commitment to the principles, responsibilities and ethical standards associated with the medical profession.
