Solid Waste Management Rules 2026 Quiz for Classes 6–12: Check Dates, Eligibility and How to Participate

New Delhi: The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) is inviting students between classes 6 and 12 to participate in a nationwide quiz on the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026 as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026.

 The Solid Waste Management Rules Quiz will be held from September 17 to October 17, 2026 on the Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE portal. Through this quiz, the Department aims to help students understand various concepts of waste management including waste segregation, recycling and reuse, as well as safe and responsible disposal of waste.

Why Has the Ministry Introduced the Quiz?

The quiz aims to create awareness about the impact of irresponsible waste disposal as well as the importance of proper management of waste and e-waste. During a national webinar on solid and e-waste management, the Honorable Secretary, DoSEL, Shri T.K. Anil Kumar discussed various activities related to waste management, e-waste management, and sustainability as part of the goals and objectives of NEP 2020.

As part of Special Campaign 5.0 of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) 2.0, the Central Government set a target of collecting 1 lakh tonnes of e-waste. As part of this campaign, about one lakh school students from 10 select districts in four states and one Union Territory collected 4,064.23 kg of e-waste.

Dr. Amarpreet Duggal Encourages Students to Participate

Joint Secretary, DoSEL, Dr. Amarpreet Duggal, highlighted the role of Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE in helping students understand environmental challenges and develop responsible habits. She encouraged students from Classes 6 to 12 to participate in the quiz during the month-long campaign.

The initiative is being conducted alongside Swachhata Pakhwada, Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 and Special Campaign 6.0, creating a wider platform for schools to connect classroom learning with practical environmental action. The activities help students understand the importance of sustainability and guides them to instill positive habits and practices for environment protection.

What will students learn?

Students will learn about various practices, including the following:

• Practicing the habit of waste segregation at source
• Comprehending the concepts of material/waste (re)cycling
• Minimizing the generation of waste
• Control and management of waste
• Correct disposal of electronic waste
• Resource recovery
• Relating sustainability to cleanness

The Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign also promotes transformation of waste into wealth through various practices, like recycle and upcycle.

Making Environmental Learning Relevant to Every Child

Most teachers are more than capable of teaching facts and figures about the environment. Where they could use a little help is with activities to reinforce the concept of where waste goes after it is generated. With a little organization, they can develop resources on the topic to be used in teaching and to facilitate discussions with their students.

Think about how incorporated this theme can be when educating students in different ways, including in the classroom, through various out-of-school activities, and while taking part in different projects on the management of natural resources in the locality. It favors the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020, which aims to improve the awareness and responsibility of students about the environment.

Swachhata Hi Seva 2026: Why the Campaign Matters

The Campaigned is scheduled to take place from 17 September to 17 October 2026 with the theme, ‘Swachhata Mein Sahajiyega; Swachh Bharat Vikas Bharat’.  One of the five pillars of this campaign is Swachh Paathshala – Yuva Swachhata Abhiyaan, 2026.

As part of the Swachh Paathshala pillar, the Department of School Education and Literacy has set a target of conducting 7,00,000 cleanliness drives under Special Campaign 6.0. The national webinar held in advance of this campaign was attended online by 2,60,000 students and other participants.

The quiz on SWM Rules, 2026 will be held between September 17, 2026 and October 17, 2026 and is open to students of classes 6 to 12. Knowledge on waste management is an important addition to the Environment Education and this initiative helps students to take one step further from understanding the concept of ‘Cleanliness’ to learning the science of disposal of waste in an effective manner.
