Sikkim University Announces Junior Research Fellow Vacancy in Horticulture Department

Sikkim University is inviting applications for a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position within the Department of Horticulture for a DBT-funded project focused on the long-term soil fertility of organic farming systems in Sikkim. This temporary role offers a monthly fellowship of Rs. 37,000 + 9% HRA for candidates with a First-class Master’s degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Microbiology, or Life Sciences who have cleared NET/GATE. Sikkim, India, Sikkim University, a prestigious central university established by an Act of Parliament in 2007 and accredited by NAAC in 2015, has officially released an advertisement for the recruitment of a Junior Research Fellow. This specialised research position is purely temporary and project-based, located on the university's campus at 6th Mile, Samdur, Tadong, Gangtok, Sikkim. The opening is part of a Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, funded project titled "Prediction of long-term soil fertility of Organic Agriculture System in Sikkim by evaluating the distributional pattern of earthworms and the soil microbiota".

The university is looking for a candidate with a consistently strong academic record and a First-class Master's Degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Microbiology, or Life Sciences. Additionally, applicants must have qualified for NET or GATE to be eligible for the role. The selected candidate will receive a monthly fellowship of Rs. 37,000 plus a 9% House Rent Allowance (HRA), contingent upon satisfactory performance. While the upper age limit for the position is 28 years, the university provides age relaxation for SC, ST, OBC, Women, and physically disabled candidates in accordance with the Government of India norms.

Candidates with prior experience in microbiology, molecular biology, or organic farming will be given preference during the selection process. Furthermore, those with experience working in the Himalayan region are encouraged to apply. The tenure of the position is initially set at six months. However, it may be extended based on the fellow's performance, the project's duration, or the availability of funds. The research effort is led by a distinguished team of investigators, including the Principal Investigator, Prof. (Dr.). Niladri Bag and Co-PIs Prof. (Dr.) Amit Chakraborty and Dr Vijay Shankar Singh.
