New Delhi: The fourth lecture for school students under the SciTech SpinsLecture Series organised by IIT Delhi will be held on December 18, 2021. SciTech Spins is an academic outreach initiative by the institute for the school students especially from classes 9th - 12th.
During the fourth online lecture titled “UnravelingNature: From the Galaxies to the Quantum Realm”,IIT Delhi scientistsProf Suprit Singh, Prof Abhishek MuralidharIyer and Prof Tarun Sharmafrom the Department of Physics will explain about the universe and its history to the students.
Questions like “Can electrons walk through walls? What do atoms look like? Why does matter havea mass? How can sky be used as a laboratory?” will be taken up by the speakers during the lecture divided into two parts.
In the first part titled “A Brief History of the Universe: From the Big Bang to the Present”, Prof. Suprit Singh will take the students on a tour of the universe from its beginnings. While the second part, delivered by Profs Iyer and Sharma, will dive into the world of elementary particles.
Giving a glimpse of their lecture, the team said, “One of the fundamental challenges of the human race is to understandnature in all its manifestations. This includes objects as large asgalaxies and stars to the fundamental particles like the electrons. Overthe past several centuries, our understanding has undergone a process ofsteady evolution. This talk will attempt to retrace theimportant steps in this progression and eventually lead to ourunderstanding today.”

The 3rd SciTech Spins lecture titled “Materials that Matter” accompanied by laboratory demonstrations was held on November 20th, 2021. It received an overwhelming response from the attendees.
A class 8th student named Ms Gauri Garg, who attended the 3rd lecture penned a note to one of the professors after the talk, “I enjoyed this online session and want to thank youfor makinglearning tough concepts so simple, entertaining and engaging. When Ijoined the session, my mother told me that the topic was for seniorstudents, but once you started talking, I could understand it quiteeasily.The examples that were taken up werealso very exciting.I loved itwhen you connected the concepts to the science taught in my class.”
The inauguralSciTech Spins lecture titled ‘Design Thinking- A Powerful Tool for Problem Solving’, second lecture titled “Learning to Learn Through Modeling” were organised on September 11 and October 23, 2021, respectively.
IIT Delhiis giving e-certificates to all registered students nominated by their respective schools who attend the lecture.They will also be invited to 'Open House', an annual intellectual fest organised by IIT Delhi, which provides an ideal platform to school students to connect with some of the leading researchers in the field of Science and Technology.
