Schools Closed in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar for October Festive Breaks

Schools in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar will remain closed in October 2025 for Diwali, Chhath Puja, and survey work. Check state-wise school holiday dates and reopening details.

 

New Delhi. ; With the festive season approaching, several Indian states have announced school holidays for October 2025. Students and teachers in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar will enjoy time off for Diwali, Chhath Puja, and state survey duties. These breaks offer families the chance to celebrate together while giving teachers time to complete administrative work.

KARNATAKA: Schools Closed for Survey Work

In Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has declared that all schools will remain closed from October 8 to 18, 2025, to allow teachers to participate in the ongoing social and educational survey (commonly known as the caste survey).
The survey, initially scheduled to conclude by October 7, faced delays in certain districts. As per official data, Koppal district has completed nearly 97% of the work, while Udupi and Dakshina Kannada are at 63% and 60%, respectively.
Teachers engaged in mid-term exams are exempted from survey duties during this period.

RAJASTHAN: 12-Day Diwali Vacation

In Rajasthan, the state’s Education Department has announced a 12-day Diwali break starting from October 13. Schools will reopen on October 25, 2025. The extended vacation provides students and staff with ample time to celebrate the festival of lights with family and friends.

UTTAR PRADESH: Shorter Festive Break

Schools in Uttar Pradesh will observe a Diwali break from October 20 to 23, 2025. Including the preceding weekend (October 18–19), students will get a total of five days off to enjoy festive celebrations at home.

BIHAR: Holidays for Diwali and Chhath Puja

In Bihar, schools will remain closed from October 20, 2025, covering both Diwali and Chhath Puja festivities. The extended holidays will allow students and families to participate in cultural and traditional rituals celebrated across the state.

Other states are also expected to release similar holiday schedules around Diwali. While many students will embrace the festive mood, others might use this time to revise lessons and prepare for upcoming exams. Parents and students are advised to confirm exact dates and reopening schedules with their respective schools.
