Heavy continuous rain since yesterday night has caused big trouble in mountain areas of Jammu region. Water levels are rising everywhere and there is high risk of land sliding and stones falling down from hills. Looking at this weather situation, Chief Education Officers (CEOs) of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban district gave strict orders today. They declared that all government and private schools will remain shut on August 1, 2026.
The decision was taken mainly for safety of small children and school staff. Travelling on narrow mountain roads during heavy rain is very risky right now. Weather office also issued severe alert for upper hilly areas, telling people to stay at home unless urgent work is there. Education department clearly said that saving children life is main priority right now.
Landslides and Shooting Stones Block Main Hilly Roads :
In mountain districts like Ramban and Doda, continuous heavy rain always creates big nuisance on roads. Mud slides down from hill slopes and big stones keeps falling on roads, which people locally call shooting stones. Right now, main roads including national highway and small village link roads is blocked at many points due to big mud dumps. Driving school buses on these slippery tracks can cause dangerous accidents any minute.
Local people told that small streams and rivers in these areas are flowing above danger mark since morning. Walking on foot on these muddy paths is also very risky for young kids. Keeping these danger points in mind, local administration felt calling students to school today is taking unnecessary risk with their lives. Fast orders were sent to all school headmasters to stop physical classes immediately.
Shift to Online Classes so Student Studies Don't Suffer :
Even though physical school gates are closed today, government wants that children studies should not get affected. All private and government school management were strictly asked to switch to online classes mode starting from August 1, 2026 itself. This order is given so syllabus coverage goes on smoothly from home and students do not face study loss because of unexpected weather holidays.
School teachers started making WhatsApp study groups and sending class links to parents from early morning. Many schools are taking online lectures on mobile apps so daily routine of children remains normal. Parents are also requested by school principals to help their kids in joining online classes on time and strictly keep them inside house till rain stops and local roads gets cleared.
Emergency Response Teams Put on High Alert Across Region :
To handle any sudden emergency situation because of non-stop rain and landslides, district officers of Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar put all departments on high alert. Emergency rescue teams, local police, and heavy JCB machines for clearing mud are deployed at dangerous mountain turns. Senior officers are constantly checking water level in main rivers and checking landslide spots so quick help can be sent if situation gets worse.
Chief Education Officers also asked school staff to stay connected with local administration round the clock. If rain continues like this for next few days, new orders about extending school holiday will be released on official social media handles and local news. People living near river banks or steep slopes are advised to remain extra alert and avoid moving outside.
Safety Guidelines Issued for Parents and General Public :
Along with closing schools, district administration released urgent safety guidelines for families living in these rain affected districts. Parents are strictly advised not to allow small children to go near overflowing streams, rivers, or loose soil slopes where sudden flash flood or landslide can happen. Emergency control rooms set up at district offices are working 24 hours to give immediate help to local public.
Helpline numbers are shared across local news channels so people can call directly if roads gets blocked or someone gets stuck. Local public is asked to check weather reports before planning any travel on Doda, Kishtwar, or Ramban routes. School administrations will send message to parents regarding regular physical school reopening only when weather department confirms that road conditions is completely safe.
