India - The University of Wollongong (UOW) India, GIFT City Campus, has announced the Kalyani Brahmbhatt Memorial Merit Scholarship, established in memory of Ms. Kalyani Brahmbhatt, a valued member of the university’s core Indian team who tragically lost her life in an aviation accident last year.

The scholarship honours Kalyani Brahmbhatt’s strong belief in the transformative power of education, integrity, discipline, and opportunity. Through this initiative, UOW India seeks to reduce financial barriers for high-potential students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and enable them to pursue higher education purely on the basis of merit and commitment.

Under the scholarship scheme, one eligible student from each of UOW India’s partner universities will be awarded 60 per cent tuition fee support per year, subject to meeting prescribed merit and continuation requirements. The scholarship is applicable to full-time, on-campus undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes offered at UOW India.

Speaking on the announcement, G. Q. Max Lu, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Wollongong, said that the scholarship reflects the university’s commitment to ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder academic potential. He added that by supporting meritorious students from economically weaker families, the university upholds values of integrity, excellence, and opportunity, while also celebrating the life and contributions of Kalyani Brahmbhatt.

Aligned with national education priorities, the scholarship follows merit-cum-means principles outlined in Government of India scholarship frameworks. It is merit-based and need-linked and does not constitute any reservation, quota, or category-based entitlement. The initiative aims to broaden access to quality higher education while maintaining academic excellence as a core principle.

Through the Kalyani Brahmbhatt Memorial Merit Scholarship, UOW India reaffirms its commitment to inclusive, globally benchmarked education in India and to fostering a culture of responsibility, academic integrity, and long-term impact.
