New Delhi - Rajdhani College, affiliated with the University of Delhi, successfully organized a two-day international conference on “Emerging Pollutants and Climate Resilience” on 29th and 30th January at the college auditorium. The conference was jointly organized by the Environmental Awareness Committee, Rajdhani College, the Department of Environmental Studies, University of Delhi, and received financial support from the National Research Foundation (NRF) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.
The conference witness the active participation of distinguished academicians, scientists, environmental experts, policymakers, teachers, researchers and students from India and various other countries. It provided a strong platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on pressing environmental issues related to pollution and climate change.
The inaugural session was graced by Prof. Radheshyam Sharma, Head, Department of Environmental Studies, University of Delhi, as the Chief Guest. Prof. Amit Kumar Singh, Chairman of the Governing Body, Rajdhani College, and Prof. Darshan Pandey, Principal, Rajdhani College, were also present. The speakers highlighted the academic, social, and environmental relevance of the conference.
Several eminent national and international experts delivered keynote and invited lectures, including Prof. Vandana Mishra (University of Delhi), Prof. Yutaka Matsumi and Prof. Sachiko Hayashida (Japan), Dr. Narendra Singh (Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand), Dr. Praveen Kumar, Dr. Akhilesh Mishra (NERC, UK), Prof. P. K. Joshi (JNU), and Dr. Anupam Joshi (World Bank).
Technical sessions focus on four major themes; emerging pollutants & their mitigation, climate change and solutions, their interlinkages climate change and help and indigenous knowledge system for climate resilience. These sessions encouraged discussions on recent scientific research policy frameworks and community-based solutions.
Researchers and students actively participated through oral and poster presentations, offering young scholars valuable opportunities to showcase their work and interact with experts. The enthusiastic participation of more than 150 delegates contributed significantly to the success of the conference.
The organizing committee, led by Prof. Surendra Kumar Thakur and Prof. Pankaj Garg, played a crucial role in ensuring smooth coordination and effective management of the event.
The valedictory session was attended by Prof. Balram Pani, Dean of Colleges, University of Delhi, as the Chief Guest, and Shri Puneet Sood as the Guest of Honour. The session was chaired by Prof. Darshan Pandey. Awards were presented for the best oral and poster presentations. Conference convenors Dr. Tapasya Tomar and Dr. Atinder Pal Singh presented the key outcomes of the conference and emphasized the need for sustained collaboration.
The conference concluded with a collective commitment towards advancing research, policy coherence and sustainable practices for a climate resilient and environmentally sustainable future.
