New Delhi. : Indian students aspiring to pursue higher education abroad now have a significant opportunity, as the Russian government has announced 300 fully funded scholarships for the 2026–27 academic year. The initiative enables Indian students to study at leading Russian universities across a vast array of disciplines, ranging from medicine and engineering to humanities, management, arts, and space sciences.

Scholarships Open for Multiple Academic Levels

The scheme is available for students seeking admission into:

  • Undergraduate programmes
  • Specialist degrees
  • Master’s programmes
  • Doctoral programmes

Advanced training and professional development courses

Under the scholarship, tuition fees are fully waived at most Russian universities. The only exceptions are Lomonosov Moscow State University and MGIMO, where certain fee structures may apply.

Wide Range of Courses Offered

Students can choose from diverse fields including:
Medicine, pharmacy, engineering, architecture, agriculture, economics, management, humanities, mathematics, aviation, sports, arts, and space science.

Many programs—especially in engineering and medicine—are also available in English.
For students unfamiliar with Russian, the government provides a one-year preparatory language programme before the commencement of the main course.

Two-Stage Selection Procedure

The selection process involves:

  • Initial screening based on academic records, recommendation letters, certificates, research work, and achievements in academic competitions.
  • Placement at suitable universities, followed by visa processing facilitated by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia.

Important Deadline

The first round of applications closes on January 15, 2026.

The Ministry of Education, Government of India, has clarified that it is not involved in the nomination or selection of candidates, and students should rely solely on the Russian authorities and official portal for the application process.
