BAMBOLIM: Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim, lifted the Goa University Inter-Collegiate Women’s Football Championship after edging out defending champions Don Bosco College, Panjim, 2-0 in a tie-breaker at the SAG Athletics Stadium, Bambolim. The thrilling final, organised by Goa University, ended goalless in regulation time.
Rosary College started aggressively, creating several chances, but failed to convert as shots either went off target or struck the woodwork. Don Bosco, relying on a resilient defence, held firm, with their goalkeeper Flani Costa pulling off key saves to keep the scoreline 0-0 at halftime.
The intensity grew in the second half, but both teams struggled to break the deadlock, forcing the match into a penalty shootout.
In the tie-breaker, Rosary goalkeeper Ria Rajesh proved decisive, saving the first two Don Bosco attempts. Fatima Braganza and Swellen Fernandes successfully converted for Rosary, giving them a 2-0 lead. Don Bosco missed all their subsequent attempts, handing Rosary College a well-deserved victory.
Vinoshka Fernandes of Rosary College was adjudged Best Player of the Championship, finishing as the highest scorer with five goals and playing a pivotal role in her team’s success.
The medals and trophies were presented by chief guest and Sports Authority of Goa football coach Maymol Rocky, guest of honour Ryan Pereira, Director of Physical Education and Sports, Don Bosco College, and Balachandra Jadar, Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University.
