IIT Roorkee Commemorates Republic Day 2025, Celebrating Its 178-Year-Old Legacy and Commitment to Nation-Building
IIT Roorkee, 26 01, 2025: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions in India, celebrated the 76th Republic Day with grandeur, reaffirming its 178-year-old legacy of excellence and commitment to shaping the nation’s future.
The celebrations commenced with the arrival of key dignitaries, including the Director, Prof. Kamal Kishore Pant, Deputy Director, Prof. U.P. Singh, Registrar, Shri Prashant Garg, Dean of Administration, Prof. D.S. Arya, along with esteemed faculty members, staff, and students. Prof. Pant inspected the Guard of Honour presented by the Security Staff and NCC cadets before ceremonially hoisting the national flag. This was followed by a heartfelt rendition of the national anthem by the entire gathering, symbolizing unity and patriotism.
In his address, Prof. Pant reflected on IIT Roorkee’s pivotal role in India’s progress. “As one of Asia’s oldest technical institutions, IIT Roorkee carries a profound legacy of innovation, research, and societal impact. This Republic Day, we recommit ourselves to driving progress through cutting-edge research, sustainability, and the empowerment of future leaders,” he said.
The event celebrated India’s cultural diversity with vibrant performances by students from ABN Senior Secondary School, Anushruti Academy for the Deaf, and the IIT Roorkee Cultural Society. These presentations not only showcased India’s rich heritage but also reflected the talents and creativity of the younger generation.
Recognizing contributions within the institution, awards and commendation certificates were presented to employees for their exemplary efforts in 2024. Trophies for initiatives like the Best Cleaned Bhawan and Mess further highlighted IIT Roorkee’s commitment to sustainability and inclusivity on campus.
The program concluded with a rousing chorus of the national anthem and a collective cheer of “Jai Hind,” leaving attendees inspired and proud. The celebrations were live-streamed, allowing alumni, students, and well-wishers worldwide to participate and connect with the institution’s enduring legacy
IGNOU Celebrates 76th Republic Day with Pride and Remarkable Achievements
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) celebrated the 76th Republic Day with great fervor at its Maidan Garhi campus, Delhi. The celebration commenced with the unfurling of the national flag by Vice Chancellor Prof. Uma Kanjilal, followed by her address to the IGNOU community, including students, staff, and regional centre representatives.
On the occasion of India’s 76th Republic Day, Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Vice Chancellor of IGNOU, reflected on the significance of the day, which commemorates the triumph of India’s democracy, the adoption of its Constitution, and the spirit of self-governance. She emphasized that the nation’s progress is intricately tied to education, which forms the foundation of economic growth, social advancement, and technological innovation. Vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047, Prof. Kanjilal highlighted the crucial role of education in fostering a skilled and innovative workforce. Through initiatives like the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, IGNOU aims to provide equitable access to quality education, vocational training, and research opportunities to meet the aspirations of a growing nation.
Prof. Kanjilal also shared the university’s recent milestones, including a 4.5% increase in enrollment in the July 2024 admission cycle, with over 9.5 lakh learners registered. IGNOU’s outreach to diverse populations was notable, with over 62% of students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The university’s commitment to digital learning was underscored by the rise in learners opting for digital study materials and the launch of new programs, including those for Agniveers and international students under the E-Vidyabharati scheme. Additionally, IGNOU's focus on multilingual education through platforms like SWAYAM Prabha and the translation of courses into regional languages, such as Odia, showcases its commitment to inclusive learning. With an eye on future innovations, IGNOU continues to upgrade its infrastructure and expand its academic offerings to support the vision of a developed India.
The Republic Day celebrations were vibrant and inclusive, featuring cultural programmes that showcased the diverse talents of the IGNOU community. Highlights included patriotic songs, Gujarati folk music, a skit by students, and a fancy dress parade by children from the University’s crèche. The security staff also participated enthusiastically with a special song and dance performance, adding to the festive spirit.
The event celebrated not only the spirit of Republic Day but also IGNOU’s dedication to excellence, inclusivity, and innovation, reinforcing its position as a leader in open and distance learning in India and beyond.
Republic Day celebrated at CUH
The 76th Republic Day of India was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendragarh. Prof.Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice Chancellor of the University, first saluted the brave soldiers at VidyaVeertaSthal located in the academic block three of the University. After this, Prof.Tankeshwar Kumar unfurledthe flag. On this occasion, he wished the faculty members, employees and students a Happy Republic Day. The Vice Chancellor said on this occasion that the common man is at the center of the Indian Constitution made under the leadership of Baba SahebBhimraoAmbedkar. This Constitution is the basis of the manpower and people's power of the country. The Indian Constitution is threaded together the Indians in the thread of equality, unity and integrity. On this occasion, the first woman of the University, Prof.Sunita Srivastava, Examination Controller Prof. Rajiv Kaushik and Dean Academics Prof.Sanjiv Kumar and Dean Student Welfare Prof.Anand Sharma were present in a dignified manner.
In his address, Prof.Tankeshwar Kumar said that Republic Day is a day of pride for all Indians. On this day we got our Constitution, which tells us how our country should be run. It is this Constitution that binds the citizens of India together. The Constitution is the document that tells about the rights and duties of the citizens of the country. On this day, we remember the sacrifices of those brave people who fought for the independence of our country and contributed to making India a republic. The Vice Chancellor said that it is the citizens of the country who make it great, so when you become great, only then the country will become great. India is a great nation and it is the result of the actions and behaviour of the citizens of the country. Today is the time to eliminate poverty, malnutrition, illiteracy and make a significant contribution in space science, artificial intelligence and research. Recalling former President Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, the Vice Chancellor inspired everyone to dream and make them come true. In his address, the Vice Chancellor mentioned science, technology as well as India's spiritual and cultural heritage and described the ongoing MahaKumbh in Prayagraj as a symbol of India's historical heritage.
Prof.Tankeshwar Kumar said that the University is moving on the path of continuous progress. In the efforts necessary to achieve the goals set in the National Education Policy-2020, the University has made its mark as an excellent centre of research, innovation, study and teaching this year. He informed that the University has received a grant of Rs 273.47 crore for the development of resources. Along with this, the development of sports facilities is continuing. The Vice Chancellor expressed happiness over the University being awarded the University of the Year (Emerging) 2024 by FICCI and called it the result of the efforts of University teachers, students and other participants. He said that the resolution of a developed India in 2047 can be fulfilled only by achieving excellence in continuous study and skills.
The Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the soldiers, farmers and intellectuals of the country and inspired everyone to contribute to the progress of India. The stage of the program was conducted by Dr.Neeraj Karan Singh. In the event, the students of the University gave various patriotic presentations. Among them, Mansi Chaudhary, Amarraj, Kajal, Rabin, Khushi Arora, Pawan Yadav, M. Shraddha, Parul, Ravi Yadav, Kul Singh, Meghram Singh gave presentations. In the same sequence, on behalf of the teachers and employees of the University and their families, SanvikaVij, Avnya Santosh, Bhagyashree and Shankar enthralled the audience with their presentations. During the event, the continuous Surya Namaskar performed by the Yoga Department and the music band of the University became the center of attraction. At the end of the program, the Dean Student Welfare of the University, Prof.Anand Sharma expressed his gratitude. On this occasion, the Deans of various schools, Head of the Departments, teachers, officers and employees participated.
