RBSE Class 10 Board Exams to Be Held Twice From 2026 27: What Rajasthan Students Need to Know

Ajmer: Rajasthan is set to change the way Class 10 board examinations are conducted from the 2026-27 academic session, with the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) introducing two board examination opportunities in the same academic year. Under the new system, the first Class 10 board examination will be compulsory for students, while a second examination will give eligible students an opportunity to improve their marks. The move is aimed at reducing examination pressure and giving students greater flexibility instead of making them wait an entire year to improve their performance.

First Board Exam Will Be Compulsory

The new system will begin with the main Class 10 board examination, which students will be required to appear for. The first examination is expected to be held during February-March 2027 and will cover the Class 10 syllabus. Students who qualify in this examination will then have the option of appearing for the second examination if they want to improve their scores. This means the second examination will not simply replace the main board examination. It will function as an additional opportunity for students who want to improve their academic performance.

Second Exam Will Offer an Opportunity to Improve Marks

Students who qualify in the first examination will be allowed to appear for the second examination to improve their marks in up to three subjects. The second examination is expected to be conducted around May-June 2027. Students who are satisfied with their first result can choose not to appear for the second examination. The new arrangement means that a student who performs poorly in one or more subjects will have an opportunity to improve their result within the same academic year rather than having to wait for the next board examination cycle.

Best Score Will Be Considered

One of the most important features of the new system is the better-score rule. For students who appear in both examinations, the higher marks obtained in a subject will be considered for the final result. Therefore, students will not lose their earlier marks simply because they choose to take the second examination. For example, if a student scores 62 marks in Science in the first examination and improves the score to 72 in the second examination, the higher score will be considered. This gives students an opportunity to take the second examination without the same level of risk associated with a conventional improvement examination.

Second Examination Limited to Three Subjects

The improvement opportunity is not unlimited. Eligible students will be able to appear for the second examination in a maximum of three subjects. The arrangement is therefore mainly intended for students who want to improve selected subject scores rather than repeat the complete Class 10 board examination. The change also replaces the earlier approach in which students generally had to wait for a supplementary or subsequent examination opportunity.

What Changes for Rajasthan Class 10 Students?

The new system gives students a more flexible path after their main examination. Under the existing single-exam approach, a student's performance in one board examination could have a major impact on the final result. From the 2026-27 session, qualifying students will have another opportunity within the same academic year. The policy could particularly help students whose performance is affected by examination stress, illness or an unexpectedly poor performance in one or two subjects.

What This Means for Students

The new examination structure gives Rajasthan Class 10 students more room to recover from a poor performance without losing an entire academic year. For students preparing for the 2027 board examinations, the main focus will still be the first examination because it will be compulsory. However, the second examination provides an additional safety net for students who qualify but want to improve their scores. Schools and students will need to follow the detailed RBSE instructions regarding registration, examination forms, subject selection and the final result process as these details are released. The introduction of two Class 10 board examinations marks a significant shift in Rajasthan's school examination system, moving away from a single high-stakes opportunity towards a model that gives qualifying students another chance to improve within the same academic year.
