Mahendergarh - The Central University of Haryana (CUH) inaugurated a two-week Refresher Course in Physics on February 9, 2026, at the Vande Mataram Auditorium. The programme, scheduled from February 9 to February 21, 2026, is being conducted under the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (UGC-MMTTC) in collaboration with the Department of Physics and Astrophysics, with the objective of strengthening subject knowledge and enhancing pedagogical competencies among participating faculty members.
The programme is being held under the chief patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof Tankeshwar Kumar. The inaugural session was graced by Prof Arvind, Professor of Physics and FNASc, IISER Mohali, as the Chief Guest. The session commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp followed by the University Kulgeet. The dignitaries were felicitated with shawls, mementoes, and saplings symbolizing respect, honour, and commitment to sustainability.
In his Presidential Address, Prof Tankeshwar Kumar delivered a thought-provoking speech highlighting the evolution of physics across centuries and emphasized the need for innovation in teaching practices and improved pedagogical approaches. Drawing an engaging analogy from the Mahabharata, he connected Karna’s wheel to modern-day applications such as suitcase wheels, illustrating the continuous evolution of scientific thought. In his Inaugural and Keynote Address on “The Third Quantum Revolution: Lessons for Teaching Quantum Physics," Prof Arvind traced the historical development of quantum science, discussed the evolution of quantum computing, and underscored the growing global relevance of quantum technologies, stressing the importance of conceptual clarity and interdisciplinary engagement in physics education.
The inaugural session witnessed the presence of several eminent academicians and distinguished guests, including Dean Academic Prof Pawan Kumar Maurya, Director IQAC Prof Surendra Singh, Prof Pramod Kumar, Deputy Director UGC-MMTTC Dr Tanu Gupta, Prof Abir De Sarkar, Prof A K Yadav, Prof Harish Kumar, Prof Vinod Kumar, Dr Jaswant Kumar, Dr Anshu, Dr Meenu Thakur, and Dr Ramavatar, along with faculty members of the Department of Physics and Astrophysics and participants from various institutions. Prof Sunita Srivastava presented the course overview, Prof Ankush Vij introduced the Chief Guest, and the session concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr Rakesh Kumar.
