New Delhi, October 17, 2025: The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Dr. Harini Nireka Amarasuriya, visited the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, emphasizing the shared vision of advancing research, innovation, and academic collaboration between India and Sri Lanka.
During her visit, the Prime Minister interacted with Prof. Arvind Nema, Deputy Director (Operations); Prof. Anil Verma, Dean of International Programmes; faculty members; international students; and startups incubated at IIT Delhi’s Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT).
Two FITT-incubated startups — CYRAN AI and Cluix — showcased their cutting-edge innovations to the visiting delegation.
CYRAN AI demonstrated BUDDHI, a DIY STEM education kit designed to help learners understand, experience, and build AI solutions.
Cluix presented its portable water quality analyzer, a compact technology aimed at improving environmental monitoring and public health outcomes.
The Sri Lankan Prime Minister also toured the Research and Innovation Park at IIT Delhi, where she witnessed several technologies developed by faculty and student researchers.
“IIT Delhi is a prestigious engineering and research institute in our neighbourhood. There is immense potential for academic and research collaboration between Sri Lankan institutions and IIT Delhi. We are already working with IIT Madras and look forward to strengthening ties with IIT Delhi as well,”
said Dr. Harini Nireka Amarasuriya, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.
Expressing his gratitude, Prof. Arvind Nema, Deputy Director (Operations), IIT Delhi, stated,
“We are honoured to host the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Sri Lanka and her delegation. IIT Delhi looks forward to enhancing academic and research collaborations with Sri Lankan institutions. We welcome Sri Lankan students to pursue Master’s and PhD programs at IIT Delhi and B.Tech degrees at our international campus in Abu Dhabi.”
He further suggested that scholarships funded by the Sri Lankan government for their students at IIT Delhi could act as a catalyst for capacity building and knowledge exchange between the two nations.
During the meeting, Prof. Anil Verma, Dean of International Programmes, presented IIT Delhi’s global initiatives and proposed the establishment of a “Sri Lanka Academic and Research Hub” at IIT Delhi. The proposed hub aims to strengthen academic collaboration, research partnerships, and student exchange between Indian and Sri Lankan higher education institutions.
Prof. Verma also highlighted IIT Delhi’s world-class academic and research infrastructure, its contributions to cutting-edge innovation, and its consistent ranking among top global universities.
