U.S - The Fulbright Foreign Student Program has officially opened applications for the 2027–2028 academic year, inviting eligible candidates to apply for one of the world’s most prestigious international academic exchange programmes. The competition is administered by the U.S. Department of State in collaboration with national governments and partner institutions.
As per the notification, the programme is open to citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia, offering opportunities for Master’s degree studies at U.S. universities and Visiting Student Research for non-degree academic research in the United States.
The application deadline for the current cycle is May 31, 2026.

EIigibility criteria includes citizenship of North Macedonia, completion of an undergraduate degree or current enrolment in postgraduate studies and sufficient proficiency in English language. Individuals holding permanent residency in the United States, dual citizenship of North Macedonia and the U.S. recent Fulbright award, recipients and employees of the U.S. embassy and their limited family members are not eligible to apply.
The Fulbright Foreign Student Program operates in more than 155 countries and has supported over 400,000 participants since its inception in 1946. The programme aims to promote academic excellence, cross-cultural understanding and international cooperation through education and research exchange.
Selected candidates receive a comprehensive grant package that typically includes a living allowance, limited health and accident insurance, and academic support administered by the U.S. Department of State. Fulbright grantees enter the United States on a J-1 Exchange Visitor visa, which includes a two-year home-country residency requirement upon completion of the programme.
Applications must be submitted online in English through the official Fulbright application portal. Applicants are required to upload scanned documents in PDF format, including academic transcripts, letters of reference, proof of English proficiency and a valid passport. Standardised tests such as TOEFL, GRE or GMAT are not required at the time of application but may be requested at a later stage for shortlisted candidates.
