Pondicherry University Proposes SNCI Chapter to Strengthen Neurochemistry Research and Student Skills
Puducherry: Pondicherry University has proposed establishing a campus chapter of the Society for Neurochemistry, India (SNCI). The university's proposal includes the intent to participate in the national neurochemistry community, and create more opportunities for students and research scholars to gain practical research experience and insight into the field.
The proposed SNCI chapter could offer students and researchers an ongoing academic platform for exploring neurochemistry-related specialisations and fields including but not limited to neuroinformatics, artificial intelligence, genomics and therapeutic development. Notably, the university has proposed an SNCI chapter - publicly available information does not indicate it has been formally constituted.
Pondicherry University Plans SNCI Chapter
An SNCI chapter at Pondicherry University is a proposed idea. The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. P. Prakash Babu, has expressed interest in having an SNCI chapter at the university. According to Deputy Registrar K. Magesh, the university is planning to set up the chapter, in order to strengthen the skill sets of students and research scholars.
Students pursuing disciplines related to life sciences, biotechnology, bioinformatics, neuroscience, biomedical research and related fields could particularly benefit from a specialised association at campus level, which could encourage academic interaction beyond their own lab environments. With that said, membership criteria, activity descriptions, launch mechanism and other details related to a proposed SNCI chapter have not been publicly detailed by the university.
Neurochemistry Research Takes a Multidisciplinary Direction
A broad scope of research topics were discussed during the scientific programme, including neuroinformatics, artificial intelligence, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, brain imaging, electrophysiology and therapeutic development.
The range of subjects reflects a multidisciplinary direction in current neuroscience research.
