PM Modi to Attend IIT Delhi's 57th Convocation on August 8; Will Inaugurate AI Supercomputer 'Param Pragya'
New Delhi: Major events are scheduled to take place on August 8, 2026, in connection with the 57th Convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. As the Chief Guest, PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate Param Pragya, a new-generation, AI-based, high-performance, and extensive supercomputing facility, located at the IIT Delhi Sonipat Campus. This will take place after the completion of one more academic session for the students at IIT Delhi, which will end with the 57th Convocation. In an announcement made on August 7, the Prime Minister's Office provided more details.
More than 3,000 students are scheduled to graduate in 2026. This batch includes 587 students who will have completed their Ph.D. The Convocation will take place at 11:00 AM.
PM Modi to Confer IIT Delhi's Highest Academic Honours
As part of the Convocation, PM Modi is scheduled to present some of the awards given by IIT Delhi to students who have excelled academically. These awards include the following:
- President's Gold Medal
- Director's Gold Medal
- Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal
- Perfect Ten Gold Medals
These awards represent IIT Delhi's highest recognition for outstanding academic performance.
New AI Infrastructure for India
A key feature of the ceremony will be the opening of Param Pragya, an AI high-performance computing (HPC) center based at the IIT Delhi Sonipat campus in Haryana. This advanced infrastructure for supercomputers aims to support research in many fields including:
