PM eVIDYA Workshop on DTH TV Content Development Concludes in Shillong

A two-day capacity-building workshop for developing educational content for PM eVIDYA DTH TV channels concluded on September 17, 2026, at the Meghalaya Teachers Training Academy (MTTA), DERT Annexe, Malki, Shillong. Organised by the Educational Technology Cell of the Directorate of Educational Research and Training (DERT), Meghalaya, in collaboration with CIET-NCERT, New Delhi, the workshop was held on September 16 and 17.

While the programme focused on more than just digital technology, the central question was: how might teachers use curriculum concepts to create clear, engaging, and technically sound television lessons? According to the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), the programme brought together 20 participants, including DIET nodal officers and teachers from different districts of Meghalaya.

Workshop Focused on Practical e-Content Development

The two-day workshop included hands-on learning in several stages of educational video production. Participants worked on script writing, educational graphics, copyright and intellectual property rights (IPR), video recording, editing and reviewing.

Rather than simply focusing on classroom learning, participants also developed video content during the workshop. This allowed teachers to apply the techniques discussed during the training to actual educational material. The workshop was facilitated by Prof. Abhay Kumar, In-charge, PM eVIDYA, CIET-NCERT; Akhilesh Verma; and Monika Bhakuni, resource persons from CIET-NCERT.

Meghalaya Has Five PM eVIDYA DTH Channels

One of the key aspects of the programme was the connection with Meghalaya's existing PM eVIDYA television infrastructure. The official CIET-NCERT channel list shows that Meghalaya has been allocated five PM eVIDYA DTH channels: 123 to 127. These are for different stages of school education:

Education Officials Highlight Digital Learning

The workshop was inaugurated in the presence of R. Rapthap, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary, Department of Education, Government of Meghalaya, and J.U. Kharpuri, MCS, Director, DERT, along with officials and resource persons. Prof. Amarendra P. Behera, Joint Director, CIET-NCERT, joined the opening session virtually and reiterated CIET-NCERT's technical and pedagogical support for digital education and e-content development.

During the opening session, officials also highlighted the importance of producing high-quality, curriculum-aligned and culturally relevant local content. The emphasis is significant for a state where educational material needs to connect with local learners and classroom contexts.

Why Content Quality Matters for PM eVIDYA

PM eVIDYA is designed as a multi-platform digital education initiative using television, online resources and other technology-enabled modes of learning. CIET-NCERT describes PM eVIDYA as an initiative of the Ministry of Education aimed at leveraging ICT to support school-level teaching and learning. The wider PM eVIDYA ecosystem includes DTH television channels serving different educational requirements. CIET-NCERT also provides a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and guidelines for developing engaging educational television content.

For Meghalaya, the capacity-building programme therefore looks set to go beyond a conventional teacher-training exercise. It is also aimed at strengthening the state's ability to create educational videos that can move from a classroom idea to a broadcast-ready lesson.

Valedictory Session Highlights: Learning Outcomes

At the valedictory session, Prof. F.G. Dkhar, Principal, NERIE-NCERT, Shillong; Dr. David M. Nongrum, Associate Professor, DERT; and Prof. Abhay Kumar, In-charge, PM eVIDYA, CIET-NCERT, shared perspectives on educational content development. The discussions covered learning outcomes, structured scripts, assessments and the potential of PM eVIDYA DTH TV Channels 123–127 for disseminating educational content.

The workshop's conclusion marks another step in Meghalaya's efforts to build local capacity for digital education. With trained teachers and DIET officials returning to their respective districts, the immediate focus will be on translating the workshop's production skills into useful, curriculum-linked video resources for students.
