Pema Khandu Announces Major Increase in Dorjee Khandu Merit Scholarship; Opens New College Buildings in Tawang

Tawang, November 2025: In a major boost to education in Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Saturday announced a significant increase in the Dorjee Khandu Merit Scholarship, while inaugurating the newly built academic and administrative blocks at Dorjee Khandu Government College, Tawang.

Honouring the legacy of former Chief Minister Late Dorjee Khandu, the scholarship amount has been increased from ₹35,000, ₹23,000, and ₹15,000 for the top three ranks to ₹5 lakh, ₹3 lakh, and ₹2 lakh respectively, effective from the current academic year.

Scholarship Hike to Promote Academic Excellence

Announcing the enhancement, CM Khandu said the move is aimed at encouraging academic excellence and rewarding merit among students across the state.
He lauded the college’s progress since its establishment in 2016, describing it as one of the most disciplined and high-achieving institutions in Arunachal Pradesh.

Khandu commended Principal Dr. Yeshi Gyetsen and the faculty for their dedication to academic quality and student growth.

New Infrastructure Strengthens NEP 2020 Implementation

Dedicating the new infrastructure to students and staff, the Chief Minister said the development aligns with the state’s mission to effectively implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing access, equity, quality, and accountability in higher education.

He also confirmed that proposals for additional teaching and non-teaching staff have been forwarded for approval. The Tawang Deputy Commissioner was directed to expedite pending works, including furniture procurement, boundary fencing, and other essential facilities on campus.

Focus on Sports and Holistic Growth

In his address, Khandu proposed the development of a sports ground for Dorjee Khandu Government College near the Tawang Stadium, promising continued phased infrastructure upgrades.

He emphasized that discipline and dedication are essential qualities for long-term success, encouraging students to uphold moral values and academic commitment.

 High Academic Achievements at Dorjee Khandu College

The college has achieved remarkable academic results, maintaining a pass percentage of over 95% in recent years — including 100% results in the past two academic sessions.

The Chief Minister’s announcement is expected to further motivate students to excel in academics and contribute to the state’s development.

Under the newly revised Dorjee Khandu Merit Scholarship, the top three academic performers in Arunachal Pradesh will now receive a substantial increase in financial rewards. From the current academic year, the first rank holder will be awarded ₹5 lakh, the second rank holder will receive ₹3 lakh, and the third rank holder will get ₹2 lakh. This marks a major jump from the previous scholarship amounts of ₹35,000, ₹23,000, and ₹15,000 respectively.
