New Delhi. : A recent survey conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has shed light on the challenges parents face in managing their children's academic and behavioural development. The survey, aimed at strengthening the parent-child-school relationship, gathered responses from 13,000 parents across India.
Key Findings
Behavioural Challenges: 40.1% of parents reported occasional struggles with their child's behaviour, while 54.45% felt capable of handling these issues. About 5% admitted to needing additional support.
Academic Support: While 53.5% of parents were confident in assisting their children academically, 40.9% found it difficult at times, and 5.65% expressed the need for extra help.
Parenting Awareness: 43.5% of parents felt they fully understood how their parenting influences their child's development. However, 36.8% wanted more knowledge, and 19.7% were still navigating parenting challenges.
School Support: 49% of parents believe schools provide adequate guidance in aligning parenting with education, while 29.5% feel that more support is required.
Parental Preferences for School Collaboration
The survey highlighted how parents would like to enhance cooperation with schools:
- 32% prefer workshops and training programs.
- 21.4% favour regular parent-teacher communication.
Areas Where Parents Seek Support
The findings identified key areas where parents require guidance:
- Academic support: 13.7% seek assistance with their child's studies.
- Social skills development: 12.3% need help fostering social interactions.
- Patience and constructive feedback: 12.15% look for strategies to enhance their child's emotional growth.
- Other concerns include time management, student habits, communication, and setting boundaries.
Grade-Wise Parenting Focus
The survey also emphasized specific parenting needs for different age groups:
- Kindergarten: Managing tantrums, emotional control, and resilience.
- Grades 1-2: Encouraging a reading-friendly home, modeling empathy, and setting boundaries.
- Grades 3-5: Developing logical reasoning, decision-making, online safety, and self-discipline.
- Grades 6-8: Addressing adolescence, social influence, and cyberbullying.
- Grades 9-12: Managing stress, reducing distractions, discussing relationships and safety, and career planning.
Conclusion
CBSE conducted this survey to identify parenting trends and areas requiring additional support. The results underscore the need for enhanced collaboration between parents and schools to ensure children's holistic development. Moving forward, the focus will be on creating more structured programs to support parents in fostering their children’s academic, emotional, and social growth.
