Panel Discussion on One Nation, One Election held at CUH

Mahendergarh : A panel discussion on 'One Nation, One Election' was organized at Central University of Haryana (CUH) on Wednesday with the collaborative efforts of the Student Welfare Dean’s Office, Law Department, NCC, and NSS units. The event was graced by the distinguished presence of Shri Satish Poonia, Former Leader of opposition, Rajasthan State Assembly as a chief guest; MLA Mr. Kanwar Singh Yadav as a guest of honour; former IAS officer Mr. Narendra Kumar and Prof. Satish Kumar from IGNOU, New Delhias an expert speaker. Panel Discussion presided over by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar.

Mr. Satish Poonia emphasized that for India to become a developed nation, the implementation of One Nation, One Election is imperative. Sharing his experiences from recent election campaigns in Haryana, he noted that the public overwhelmingly supports this concept. Highlighting its significance, he stated that under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the concept has once again come to the forefront, and continuous positive discussions will help achieve its objectives.

Mr. Kanwar Singh Yadav, also supported the concept, stating that for the nation’s strength and optimal utilization of resources, it is crucial to end the cycle of frequent elections. He pointed out that continuous electoral processes create administrative hurdles, affecting good governance.

Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, expressed gratitude to the guests and organizers, emphasizing the importance of this topic in today’s context. He remarked that the current election cycle keeps the nation in perpetual election mode, which hampers development. The introduction of One Nation, One Election would alleviate this continuous electoral pressure, thereby accelerating national progress.

Expert speakers, former IAS officer Mr. Narendra Kumar and Prof. Satish Kumar from IGNOU, shared their insights. Mr. NArender Kumar pointed out that the concept is not new, as the initial elections post-independence followed this model until changes were made in 1967. He acknowledged the complexities of conducting simultaneous elections but assured its feasibility for the nation’s benefit. Prof. Satish Kumar highlighted the economic and social impacts of frequent elections and stressed the need for governance to focus on development beyond electoral cycles.

The discussion was initiated by Prof.Anand Sharma, who outlined the program, and Dr. Pradeep Kumar, Dean, School of Law introduced the topic. The event witnessed participation from numerous faculty members, students, and researchers, including Dr.Neelam, Prof. Ramesh Kumar, Prof.Renu Yadav, Dr. A.P. Sharma, Dr.Sudeep Kumar, Dr. Vinay Ahlawat, Dr.VikasSiwachand Mr. Rakesh Meena.
