New Delhi. ; A FY 2026-27 internal survey by Vikalp India finds that 72% of overseas students pursuing online schooling in India are from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar. The concentration of students across these four Gulf countries highlights the role of India-based online schooling in supporting families seeking to maintain an Indian education pathway while living abroad.
The survey, which covers students across 18 countries, found that the UAE accounts for 27.4% of overseas students, followed by Saudi Arabia at 25.4%, while Kuwait and Qatar account for 10.1% and 9.2%, respectively. Together, the UAE and Saudi Arabia account for 52.8% of overseas students, while the four Gulf countries collectively represent 72.1%, making the region the largest contributor to the overseas student distribution in the survey.
"The concentration of overseas students in the Gulf is an interesting indicator of how online schooling is enabling Indian education to remain accessible to families living outside the country. At the same time, the presence of students across 18 countries shows that this trend extends beyond a single region. As families explore more flexible schooling pathways, online models can help students continue with an Indian curriculum while living across different geographies," said Dinesh Gupta, Founder & CEO, Vikalp India.
Beyond the Gulf, the survey also points to a wider international presence of students pursuing online schooling in India. Egypt accounts for 7.5% of overseas students, followed by Germany at 7%, the UK at 3.7% and Russia at 3.1%, while Canada and the US contribute 1.7% and 1.6%, respectively. With students spread across 18 countries, the findings indicate how digital learning is enabling Indian schooling pathways to reach families across multiple regions.
The geographic spread of students across 18 countries underlines the expanding reach of Indian curricula through online schooling. While the Gulf remains the largest contributor, the presence of students across Europe, the Middle East and North America indicates that demand for India-linked schooling extends across multiple international markets.
