Over 12,000 teaching posts vacant in KVs, says education ministry

New Delhi: In Kendriya Vidyalayas across the nation, 12,044 teaching positions and 1,332 non-teaching positions remain unfilled. On Monday, Annapurna Devi, the Union Minister of State for Education, stated that over 12,000 teaching vacancies in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) are unfilled while over 9,000 teachers have been hired on a contract basis. In response to a query from the Lok Sabha, Annapurna Devi provided the information.

According to the education ministry, Tamil Nadu (1,162), Madhya Pradesh (1,066), and Karantaka have the most open teaching positions (1,006). Additionally, there are 3,156 open teaching opportunities in Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs) nationwide as of 2021.

In Kendriya Vidyalayas across the nation, there are 1,332 non-teaching positions and 12,044 teaching positions that are open.

"The vacancies occasionally exist due to transfer and retirement," added Devi. Additionally, 9,161 teachers have been contractually employed in KVs across the nation. In addition to the top three states with more than a thousand open positions, there are seven additional states, including West Bengal (964), Odisha (886) and Maharashtra (705), that have more than 600 open positions in the KVs.
