New Delhi :- The anticipation of a new day, offering fresh opportunities and a chance to embark on new beginnings, often brings about a sense of delight. This sentiment was echoed at Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW), Delhi, as it warmly welcomed its incoming cohort of students. The Chief Guest for the Orientation Day was Professor Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, who extended her congratulations to the students on their enrollment at the University. She said “It gives me great pleasure to be here with you all today. As a young woman, you have the power to shape the future and make a significant impact in every field you choose. I encourage you to dream big, set ambitions and work tirelessly to achieve them. Many have paved the way for you, breaking barriers and challenging societal norms. You too can be the agent of change”
The Guest of Honor was Dr Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General, Association of Universities (AIU). She welcomed the new batch of students and said “I wish to congratulate all for having secured your admission to one of the top-ranking University. Remember that education is one of the key pillars of success. Embrace every opportunity to learn, grow and broaden your horizons and never stop seeking knowledge as it is the key that opens the doors to endless possibilities.”
The orientation program for the newly admitted batch, spanning undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs, was meticulously organized on the 9th of August, 2023. This event took place at the University Central Lawns, situated in Kashmere Gate, and commenced at 9 am. The academic offerings of IGDTUW encompass a diverse range of programs, including B.Tech, BBA, B.Arch, M.Tech, MPlan, and PhD. Notably, the B.Tech program, encompasses both conventional options such as Computer Science Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Mechanical and Automation Engineering, as well as contemporary avenues like Computer Science Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, ECE and Artificial Intelligence, and MAE with MBA.
Furthermore, the M.Tech program encompasses four specialized branches, namely Computer Science Engineering (AI), Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, IT (Cyber Security), and ECE (VLSI design), each accommodating thirty students. In parallel, the University extends its offerings to encompass PhD programs in the domains of Engineering, Science, and Technology. The orientation program played a pivotal role in acquainting the incoming students with the distinctive academic environment and work culture fostered by the University. This initiative significantly contributes to laying a robust foundation for the students' academic journey within the University.
Dr. Amita Dev, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University, emphasized the importance of the Orientation program in guiding and supporting the students through the transition from their familiar school setting to the multifaceted challenges of university life. She underlined that a comprehensive education extends beyond the acquisition of academic credentials, emphasizing the cultivation of well-rounded individuals poised to assume responsible roles within society.” She added further “Always trust your abilities and push beyond the comfort zone, for that is where personal and professional growth occurs.”
During the event, the Vice Chancellor also highlighted the University's remarkable achievements throughout the preceding academic year. IGDTUW proudly received multiple awards and accolades, including the "Engineering Education Excellence Award - 2022", the prestigious FICCI University of the Year for Best Placements in both 2021 and 2022. Notably, the University achieved significant rankings, securing a position within the 101-200 range in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Additionally, the India Today ranking of 2022 positioned IGDTUW as the 13th Best Technical University and 17th Top Engineering (Govt) college.
The University's dedication to forging strategic partnerships with industries and foreign universities was highlighted, with memoranda of understanding (MoUs) established with institutions such as Oakland University, MGEIP UNESCO, and University Malaysia Perlis. This commitment to collaboration has facilitated enhanced opportunities for students and faculty alike. IGDTUW's remarkable placement record, consistently achieving a 100% placement rate, was highlighted, with students frequently securing multiple job offers. The placements session for the 2019-23 batch attracted the participation of 128 prominent companies, resulting in an impressive total of 443 offers. Remarkably, the highest offered annual package reached an exceptional Rs. 62.52 lakhs, courtesy of Rippling, while the most substantial stipend amounted to Rs. 1,60,000/- per month.
The orientation program, an annual tradition, provides students with a comprehensive overview of the University's on-campus facilities, departments, laboratories, library, computer center, hostels, and medical center. This exposure enables students to acquaint themselves with the institution's rules and regulations, fostering a heightened sense of comfort and confidence in their decision to join IGDTUW. The event featured addresses from esteemed figures, including the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Chief Guest, Deans, Heads of Departments, Registrar, Librarian, Hostel Warden, and Training and Placement Officer, followed by an informative campus tour undertaken by the incoming batch of students.
