New Delhi : The Delhi government has unveiled a forward-looking education initiative aimed at equipping school students with real-world problem-solving and innovation skills through artificial intelligence. Titled the ‘Opportunity Handbook’, the programme will soon be introduced across government schools in the national capital.
Designed to shift learning beyond textbooks, the Opportunity Handbook will encourage students to identify real-life challenges and develop AI-powered solutions, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration at an early stage of education.
According to officials, the initiative focuses on hands-on learning by allowing students to design and build prototypes using AI while addressing pressing issues such as pollution, climate change, urban planning, smart mobility, logistics, and sustainability. The approach aims to better prepare learners for careers in emerging and future-ready sectors.
“This handbook will transform classrooms into a cohesive innovation ecosystem. The core goal is to help students think, create, and solve problems in an AI-driven world by connecting education with real-life applications,” an official said.
Structured Framework to Encourage Student Innovation
The Opportunity Handbook will act as a structured framework guiding students through ideation, teamwork, and solution-building. It will be made available digitally via the AI Grind platform, where students can register, choose sectors of interest, and work on identified challenges.
To further inspire learners, the Delhi government is consulting Shubhanshu Shukla, a test pilot with the Indian Air Force, who has recommended including space and aerospace as a dedicated sector within the programme.
Large-Scale Reach Across Delhi Schools
The initiative is expected to reach all 11 districts of Delhi, benefiting nearly 5 lakh students. Over the next six months, more than 200 industry and sectoral partners will join the programme, creating a strong, people-powered innovation ecosystem.
As part of the process:
- Students will develop around 1,000 AI-based prototypes
- 100 finalists will be shortlisted
- 50 students will be selected as AI Ambassadors, who will lead peer-driven innovation efforts in their schools and communities
AI Grind Movement and Vision Ahead
The Opportunity Handbook is being rolled out under the AI Grind movement, launched by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on December 7. The broader objective of the movement is to build a strong pipeline of young innovators capable of addressing national and global challenges with modern technological solutions.
By enabling students to work on real problems using AI tools, the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical implementation, laying a strong foundation for the next generation of innovators in Delhi’s government schools.
