Sonipat, Haryana:Bringing global perspectives to Haryana and creating a platform for intellectual exchange, O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU), Sonipat, has announced the launch of its inaugural World Ideas Forum, scheduled to take place from January 23 to 25, 2027, at its university campus. The announcement coincides with the 60th anniversary of Haryana’s formation and reflects the university’s vision of positioning Sonipat as a centre for international dialogue, education and innovation.

The forum will be organised under the theme “Where the World’s Ideas Meet” and is envisioned as an annual international gathering. It aims to bring together leaders from public life, universities, business, science, technology, arts and civil society to exchange perspectives and discuss some of the major challenges facing the world.

The inaugural edition will explore a wide range of subjects, including governance, economic development, education, science, technology, sustainability, culture and human well-being. The proposed programme will feature keynote addresses, leadership discussions, public lectures, literary conversations, book launches and cultural performances. It will also include innovation and start-up showcases, student debates, policy simulations and exhibitions covering art, music, theatre and design.

Speaking about the initiative, Naveen Jindal, Founding Chancellor and Benefactor of JGU, highlighted Haryana’s potential to emerge as a centre for education, innovation and knowledge. He emphasised that the forum would provide young people with opportunities to engage with global perspectives and participate in discussions shaping the future.

Professor C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice-Chancellor of JGU, also highlighted the importance of creating spaces where people from different backgrounds can exchange ideas, question existing perspectives and learn through dialogue. He described the forum as an effort to connect ideas emerging from Sonipat with wider international conversations.

The university has also proposed several long-term initiatives under the forum, including the World Ideas Lecture, World Ideas Award, World Ideas Book Prize and Global Young Ideas Fellowship. Other planned platforms include the Future Leaders Dialogue and Global Universities Roundtable, which aim to encourage engagement between academic institutions, emerging leaders and public representatives.

Students and young leaders are expected to play an important role in the initiative. Through debates, discussions and interactions with experienced professionals, the forum aims to connect academic learning with real-world issues and encourage students to develop independent thinking and broader perspectives.

The launch of the World Ideas Forum comes at a significant moment as Haryana enters its seventh decade. By bringing together participants from different countries and professional backgrounds, JGU aims to create an international platform for knowledge-sharing and collaboration while strengthening Sonipat’s academic and cultural presence.

With its inaugural edition scheduled for January 2027, the World Ideas Forum represents an attempt to extend the role of universities beyond traditional classrooms by creating spaces for dialogue, creativity and global engagement.
