Only 250 Council School of Varanasi meet Operation Kayakalp standard

:- There are a total of 1143 council schools in the district, out of which only about two hundred and fifty schools are able to fulfill all the 19 parameters

Varanasi: Operation Kayakalp is being run on the instructions of the government with the objective of making radical changes and providing basic facilities in the council schools. Under Operation Kayakalp, 19 parameters including drinking water, toilet, electricity and desk bench have been set.

There are a total of 1143 council schools in the district, out of which only about two hundred and fifty schools are able to fulfill all the 19 parameters. Desk and bench facilities are becoming a hindrance in case all the 19 parameters are not met. There are about 791 schools in the district, where there is no desk and bench facility.

In these schools from class one to five, children are studying while sitting on the ground. Departmental officials believe that desks and benches have been arranged in the schools of classes one to eight, but due to lack of funds, the facility of desks and benches has not been restored in the schools of classes one to five. Efforts are being made for this.

What is the 19 parameters? How many schools have which facility?

The 19 parameters prescribed under Operation Kayakalp include: drinking water, piped water supply, separate toilets and urinals for boys and girls, availability of water in toilets and tiles, hand washing units, tiles in class rooms, black boards, desk-bench, White wash in kitchen shed, school and class room, ramp with railing, electrification, internal wiring and boundary wall are included.

Drinking water, piped water supply, toilets, urinals, toilet water and tiles, black board, white wash, internal wiring, kitchen shed and hand washing units are arranged in all 1143 schools. While tiles in 93 percent of the classrooms, ramps with railings in 99 percent of schools, electrification of 93.5 percent of schools and boundary walls in 91 percent of schools have been done. At the same time, only 50 percent of the schools have desk and bench facility.
