NIRF Rankings 2024 : IIT Madras Retains 1st Position

The Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan declared the NIRF rankings

 

New Delhi: The ninth edition of NIRF was released today. Once again, IIT Madras took the top rank. IIT Madras has maintained its position as the best educational institute for the sixth time around. This ranking was conducted by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

Delhi has yet again proved itself to be the education hub of India with institutes like IIT Delhi, AIIMS Delhi, and JNU Delhi ranking 4, 6, and 10 respectively. A total of 7 institutes from Delhi made the Top 100 Overall list. 

Five broad parameters are used by the NIRF rating framework to evaluate universities. Specifically, Teaching Learning and Resources, Research and Professional Practice, Graduation Outcome, Outreach and Inclusivity, and Perception.

  • Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai, Tamil Nadu

  • Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, Karnataka

  • Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, New Delhi, Delhi

  • Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai, Maharashtra

  • Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh

  • All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi,    New Delhi, Delhi    

  • Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, Kharagpur, West Bengal    

  • Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Roorkee, Uttarakhand

  • Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Guwahati, Assam

  • Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Delhi 

 

NIRF pointed out the increase in participation by Higher Education Institutes (HEIs). Participation has grown from 3,565 in 2016 to 10,845 in 2024. Open advertisements and invitations to new institutions helped accomplish this number. State Public Universities, Open Universities, and Skill Universities were added to the portfolio of India Rankings as well. 

The data backing these rankings was submitted by the registered institutions using an Online Data Capturing System (DCS). Data was gathered from applicant institutions, public feedback, and institutional perception (from Peers and Employers, respectively).
