New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has launched its Online Short-Term Internship Programme (OSTI) for March 2026, bringing together 80 university students selected from 1,147 applicants across 17 States and Union Territories. The two-week programme, which began with an inaugural session addressed by NHRC Chairperson Justice V. Ramasubramanian, will continue until March 20, 2026. The initiative aims to familiarise students with contemporary human rights issues and the functioning of national institutions working in this field.

During the inaugural address Justice Ramasubramanian highlighted the growing relevance of human rights awareness in the modern world, particularly in the context of global conflicts, displacement, and social challenges. He emphasised that respect for human dignity and fundamental rights remains a collective responsibility, requiring participation from governments, institutions and citizens alike.

The internship programme includes a series of expert lectures, interactive discussions, research assignments and competitions designed to deepen participants’ understanding of human rights frameworks and governance mechanisms. According to NHRC officials, the initiative seeks to encourage young scholars to engage with human rights discourse and contribute to building a more informed and responsible society.
