NEET UG 2026 Rescheduled to June 21: Admit Card by June 14, No Fresh Registration

The NEET UG 2026 exam, hosted by the National Testing Agency, will be held on June 21 this year. This adjustment comes in the wake of the cancellation of the NEET UG exam, originally scheduled for May 3, due to a nationwide paper-leak scandal. There are no new registrations for the rescheduled exam; new admit cards will be printed before June 14. This rescheduling affects over 2.2 million applicants.

NTA Officially Changes the Date of NEET UG 2026 to June 21 After Cancellations Due to Paper Leak

For more than a week, a multitude of students have expressed their anxieties and frustrations at the near-total silence from the National Testing Agency (NTA). Finally, on the 15th of May, NTA issued a statement via its verified social media handles, confirming to hopefuls across the nation that the re-examination for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2026 will now be held on Sunday, June 21, 2026. This decision was made during a high-level review by the Union of India’s Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, and was subsequently given official approval by the Government of India.

The first iteration of the NEET UG 2026 was held on the 3rd of May, 2026. The examination was conducted in 551 locations throughout India and 14 other cities, spanning 5,400 examination venues. Within days, complaints emerged of a coordinated paper leak from the state of Rajasthan, where the Special Operations Group (SOG) was based. In their investigation, the SOG reported the existence of a guess paper that contained over 400 questions. Of these 400 questions, almost 120 matched the NEET UG examination, with 90 from Biology and 30 from Chemistry. On the 12th of May, the NTA officially annulled the examination, as the results would jeopardise the examination system. A complete investigation was initiated by the Central Bureau of Investigation, and by the 15th of May, 7 suspects had been arrested across several Indian states.

The new date of June 21 is especially notable for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) as it is the first occasion for a nationwide examination for every registered candidate following a paper leak.

What does the rescheduling entail concerning registration, admit cards, and exam centres?

Candidates feeling stressed due to registration concerns can feel at ease. The NTA has confirmed there will be no new registrations for the June 21 re-examination. All data entered in the May 2026 registration cycle will carry over, including the application, candidate, and preference for exam city. This means no new forms will need to be completed. There are no new fees to be paid.

As for the admit cards, the Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, stated at a press conference that new admit cards will be issued by June 14, 2026. The previously issued admit card for the May 3 exam will now be completely null and will not be accepted at any exam centre on June 21. Students will need to download the new admit card from the official website, neet.nta.nic.in, using their original application number and date of birth. Prior to the new admit card, the NTA will issue a Re-NEET City Intimation Slip, which will state the exam centre.

Candidates should give their attention to this slip. The NTA has confirmed that, to improve security during the re-examinations, exam centres will be shuffled while keeping candidates' city preferences in mind. The new admit card will state the exact address of the exam centre, whereas the city will be noted on the city slip. Students from new cities will need to confirm their travel and accommodation plans based on the city slip and check the exact address of the exam venue after the new admit card is issued.

Increased security and fee reimbursement: here’s everything new that will take effect starting June 21.

The full fee reimbursement will automatically process for every registered candidate who paid to take the May 3 exam that was cancelled. NTA confirmed that a reimbursement request is unnecessary. It will occur automatically within 7 to 15 days of their announcement. The NTA will also administer the re-exams at no charge to the students. There are no academic changes. Re-NEET UG 2026 will still follow the syllabus for NEET UG 2026, as will the exam format. Students can expect 180 MCQs across subjects in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The exam will be 3 hours and 20 minutes long, and will be scored with a total of 720. Correct answers will receive 4 points, and incorrect answers will lose 1 point. Finally, the exam, as in previous years, will be a pen-and-paper exam.

Expect the opposite on exam day, as the security will be heightened. An NTA representative stated that there will be more thorough frisking, biometric checks, additional monitoring, and changes to the distribution of question papers. The previously published May 6 provisional answer key will be null and void. Another provisional answer key will be published on June 21, along with a new window to submit objections, new results, and new All India Rankings prior to the start of the counselling process. Students progressing on the revised calendar will be eligible for admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, and AYUSH programs.

Preparing For NEET UG 2023 in the Last Few Weeks

6 Weeks can make a big difference in your exam preparation if you know how to use the time you have efficiently. You shouldn’t start the syllabus anew because the syllabus has been covered already. You should do targeted revision instead. The first step toward targeted revision should be to solve the May 3 NEET UG 2026 question paper under exam-like conditions. This will also help you identify the subjects and chapters for which you lost marks.

Once you’ve identified the chapters, you should focus on the NCERT chapters that carry the most weight in Biology and the most important and commonly asked mechanisms in your Chemistry and Physics chapters. June 21 is your deadline for the 10 mock exams you should've done by then. Since you will lose a mark for every question you get wrong, do not attempt a question if you’re not sure of the answer. You should manage your time equally for all subjects: about 45 to 50 minutes for Biology and Chemistry and 50 to 60 minutes for Physics. You won’t be able to trust the information circulating on WhatsApp or Telegram because everything from the official final updates to your city intimation slip, the updated admit card, and the counselling schedules will be posted on neet.nta.nic.in. You can also get your queries answered by calling 011-40759000 or 011-69227700, or by sending an email to neet-ug@nta.ac.in.
