NEET UG Mock Drill June 20 Ahead of Re Exam June 21

The NTA carried out a country-wide practice drill on June 20 to test security and logistics ahead of the NEET UG 2026 re-exam, which is slated for June 21 for more than 22.79 lakh candidates.

Why NTA Rehearsed All Security Steps a Day Before the Rescheduled Exam

For students and parents who have been anxious since May, Saturday was the final preparation day before the scheduled exam. The National Testing Agency conducted a nationwide mock drill on June 20, practicing security and logistical steps for June 21 at over 5,000 exam centers.

This is not a test for the people; rather, it is an NTA internal test. This rehearsal walkthroughs the armed escort of the question papers, NTA's ability to efficiently evacuate a center during an emergency, and much more. After the scrutiny of the original exam, NTA called this rehearsal a step in the right direction to maintain security and transparency of the re-exam, and to amplify NTA's efforts to streamline the process.

Some significant numbers from the mock drill, and the preparations for the re-exam include:

  • More than 2.5 lakh security personnel mobilized countrywide
  • More than 5,000 exam centers with a three-tier security system
  • Question Papers escorted by the Paramilitary Forces
  • 674 city coordinators and 6,669 independent observers appointed for each exam center

The re-exam will take place on June 21, from 2 PM to 5:15 PM, in over 551 Indian cities and 14 International cities. It is expected that over 22.79 lakh examinees will attend, and is expected to be one of the most-watched recruitment-related exams this year.

What Caused this Tightened Security During the Re-Exam?

To understand the reasoning behind this level of security, we need to go back to May. The original NEET UG 2026 exam occurred on May 3, with 22 lakh participants at over 5,400 exam centers throughout India and other countries.

Just days later, the National Testing Agency (NTA) received multiple reports of a guess paper, which allegedly had a close to identical question set to the original exam, that had been circulating amongst students. The exam was cancelled on May 12, and the investigation was placed with the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI). The investigation has also since expanded to:

  • The arrest of  13 individuals, including a medical professional and a member of coaching staff, by the CBI;
  • The identification of the routes that the leaked information took, beginning in the Indian state of Kerala and traveling to Sikar, a center of coaching in the state of Rajasthan;
  • The filing of a complaint, which initiated a case by the Ministry of Education;
  • The cancellation of the exam by the NTA was based on confirmed reports that content matching the original exam was being circulated before the exam, thus compromising the integrity of the exam.

The participants will not need to register again or pay a fee for the re-exam.

What Candidates and Their Parents Should Do Before June 21

With the exam so close, time was to move on from practicing questions in books to finalizing plans for Logistics. Along the lines, NTA has been sending notification messages through SMS, emails, and WhatsApp to Candidates, suggesting to download their admit cards and be cautious of fake messages.

Students are suggested to have the following ready:

  • An admit card, an original valid ID card and two passport-sized photographs
  • An admit card must be presented and a valid ID inspected to enter the exam hall
  • Admit card holders must arrive between the stipulated time of 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m
  • The exam hall will be closed at 1:30 p.m

Those wearing Religious and full sleeve or woolen attire are given extra time to enter the hall. Those in the PwD, PwBD, and who are eligible for compensatory time may leave the hall by 6:20 p.m.

For students suffering from extra exam anxiety because of the unusual circumstances, NTA has shared extra details for Mental Health Services, including the Tele-MANAS helpline: 14416, available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. It might also be a good day for parents to help their children settle and prepare the necessary documents instead of continuing to cram, to help children calm their nerves, and prepare.

Conclusion

The mock drill on June 20, being the latest development in the troubled situation regarding the NEET UG 2026 aspirants in the past two months, will conclude on June 21. NTA has implemented measures such as moving the NEET UG exam from May 3 in the recent past to an ongoing Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry and conducting a security drill to demonstrate that NTA won’t make the same mistakes in the upcoming re-examination.

The emphasis on exam day has replaced overall NEET UG preparation for 22.79 lakh aspirants with planning neighborhood logistics. With a security drill underway and additional personnel monitoring the situation, it’s the same as the exam. Achieving an early, calm, and ready-to-go state will make the utmost difference on the day for parents and students.
