NEET UG 2026 hopefuls are waiting for the first step of official dates for the counselling process, which will be issued by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) shortly. The counselling will facilitate access to 15% of the All India Quota (AIQ) MBBS and BDS seats, as well as AIIMS, JIPMER, BHU, AMU, ESIC, Central Universities and allied BSc Nursing programmes.
There are no public announcements of the registration dates. However, the Union Health Ministry has formally evaluated the readiness of the counselling process. In the lead-up to the expected dates, the MCC has made various digital reforms to streamline the process of admissions and reduce the challenges and stress on candidates.
NEET UG 2026 Counselling Dates Anticipated
The MCC has not published any counselling calendar in detail. However, educational reports indicate that preliminary registration will begin in the first half of August, contingent on further communication. Candidates are required to monitor the MCC portal for:
- Registration Dates
- Selection and Choice Filling Dates
- Dates for Seat Allotment

In the absence of official communication, any of the anticipated dates should be treated as tentative.
Major Reforms MCC is Implementing for NEET UG 2026
This year's MCC reforms for NEET UG are some of the most substantial changes to the MCC process in recent years. The Key reforms are:
- Procedures for seat upgrade and seat resignation will be online
- One-time physical reporting
- Virtual document verification
- Online submission of NRI quota documents
- Policies promoting transparency in counselling will incorporate clear fee and seat allotment information
These policies focus on limiting excess travel and paperwork while eliminating bottlenecks in the process.
Revised Seat Upgrade Policy
In previous years, in order to upgrade their seat, students had to travel and report to the counselling venue multiple times. With the new reforms:
- Students will only have to physically report to the venue one time after the final seat allotment has been accepted.
- Students will only have to physically report to the counselling venue one time after the seat allotment process is complete.
- The seat that is upgraded will be relinquished automatically.
This policy is expected to improve the logistics for students who have to travel multiple times to participate in multiple rounds of counselling.
New Online Seat Resignation Policy
The new online resignation policy also improves logistics for students. Resignation of allotted seats can now be completed on the MCC portal and does not require travel to the allotted college.

MCC handles counselling for:
- 15% All India Quota MBBS and BDS seats
