NEET SS Counselling 2025, MCC Extends Round 1 Resignation Till August 7

NEET SS Counselling 2025: MCC Extends Round 1 Resignation Deadline to August 7; Round 2 to Resume on August 9

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has provided a deadline extension for Round 1 resignation in NEET SS Counselling 2025 up to August 7, allowing candidates to surrender their reserved seats without losing their security deposit under a one-time special relaxation. After this extension, Round 2 of the counselling process will resume on August 9 with a revised schedule issued by the committee after directions from the Delhi High Court.

Recently, MCC provided a notification for counselling and as an update, the expired deadline for Round 1 resignation has been extended up to August 7. Candidates surrendering their reserved seats are relieving themselves from the responsibility of holding the seat without losing their security deposit. With a revision in the counselling schedule, under the revised schedule, the last date for Round 1 resignation has been extended to August 7, 2025, and Round 2 of the counselling process will be resumed on August 9, 2025. The council has directed all the candidates to be aware of notifications and updates on the official MCC counselling portal.

MCC Revises NEET SS 2025 Counselling Schedule

The notification for the counselling provided by the MCC earlier on August 3 has been withdrawn by the board as an update, and in place of the withdrawn notification for the counselling, a revised schedule for Round 2 of the counselling process has been released by the board, as per the directions of the Delhi High Court.

Under the revised schedule:

  • Last date for Round 1 resignation: August 7, 2025
  • Round 2 counselling resumes: August 9, 2025

Candidates are advised to closely monitor the official MCC counselling portal for any further notifications or schedule revisions.

Round 1 Resignation Window Extended

As part of the one-time relaxation, applicants who were awarded Round 1 seats may resign from these seats via the online process without losing their security deposit, provided that resignations are completed within the extended deadline.

Normally, candidates resigning seats after the specified timeframe may lose their security deposit. However, this temporary relaxation has been introduced to provide more flexibility amid the changes to the counselling schedule. The relaxation has been well-received by various medical associations and aspirants.

Why Was the Schedule Revised?

The revised counselling calendar is in compliance with the directives of the Delhi High Court, and therefore, MCC has withdrawn its previous August 3 notification and has published an updated Round 2 schedule.

Earlier legal proceedings and changes in the counselling framework required the committee to revisit the timetable to ensure transparency and compliance with court directions before continuing the admission process.

What Should Candidates Do Now?

Candidates at NEET SS Counselling 2025 should:

  • Resign from the Round 1 seat by August 7.
  • Complete the online resignation process, if required.
  • Keep all required documents ready for participation in Round 2.
  • Regularly check the official MCC website for seat matrix updates, registration dates, and reporting instructions.

Follow the revised counselling schedule to avoid missing any important deadlines.

Why This Update Matters

NEET SS (Super Speciality) counselling involves admissions to the specialty programs of DM and DNB. Even minor changes in the date of counselling can have significant impacts on the admission plans of the candidates, especially those who consider seat upgradation or participate in subsequent counselling rounds.

The extension of the resignation deadline grants opportunities for the students to make well-thought-out choices as they maintain their eligibility without incurring a financial penalty by participating in Round 2 without the special provision.

What is Next?

With the deadline for the resignation window closing on 07 August 2022, it is also expected that MCC will continue with the second round of registration and choice filling from 09 August 2022 in the revised counselling schedule. Potential candidates have been advised to avoid reliance on unofficial channels and instead to refer to notifications on the official MCC counselling website to ensure that they obtain accurate information regarding registration, seat allotment and reporting schedule.

Final Thoughts

The extension of the Round 1 resignation deadline has provided an opportunity to admit students for the Super Speciality Programs of DM, MCh and DNB for the academic year 2023 and 2025. MCC's recent announcement aims to give priority to the admissions schedule as counselling starts, while adhering to the judicial directions. Potential candidates for NEET SS 2025 have been offered an additional opportunity to evaluate their options for admission.
