Physics Is Entering a New Era: What NCPTSD 2026 Revealed About Innovation and Sustainable Development

New Delhi, October 8, 2026: Highlighting the growing potential of physics to drive innovation and entrepreneurship, Prof. Rama, Principal, Hansraj College, said that “maximum startups can come out of Physics” and stressed the importance of collaboration among academic institutions. She expressed confidence that the National Conference on Physics, Technology and Sustainable Development 2026 (NCPTSD 2026) would create new opportunities for young researchers and strengthen the role of physics in addressing national and societal challenges.

The three-day national conference, jointly organised by Hansraj College, Sri Aurobindo College and Kalindi College, University of Delhi, concluded on October 5 after bringing together more than 350 academicians, scientists, faculty members, research scholars and students from across the country. Held in hybrid mode from October 3 to 5, the conference witnessed participation from leading institutions including the IITs, NITs, DTU, NSUT and the University of Delhi.

The inaugural session commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and Saraswati Vandana. Dr. Yogesh Kumar, Co-Chair of the conference, gave an overview of the conference, outlining its objectives and highlighting the need for interdisciplinary scientific dialogue. The inaugural proceedings were attended by distinguished dignitaries, including Prof. Meena Charanda, Principal, Kalindi College, along with other academic leaders and delegates.

The Book of Abstracts, featuring contributions presented at the conference, was formally released during the inaugural session on October 3 in the presence of the dignitaries and delegates on the dais. Chief Guest Prof. Ashutosh Bhardwaj emphasised the importance of scientific knowledge, technological advancement and innovation in addressing contemporary challenges. He called for greater alignment of research with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and highlighted the contribution of science and technology towards the vision of Viksit Bharat.

Guest of Honour Prof. Ajoy K. Ghatak encouraged young researchers to cultivate curiosity, pursue rigorous scientific inquiry and contribute to a culture of excellence in higher education.

Prof. Arun Chaudhary, Principal, Sri Aurobindo College, emphasised the need to connect physics with everyday life and real-world challenges. He observed, “Physics ko apne jeevan me utarna aur physics ko jeena hi conference ko sarthak banata hai,” stressing that research should ultimately contribute to socially relevant and responsible innovation. The conference featured around 250 oral and poster presentations across diverse areas, including nuclear and high-energy physics, quantum science, astrophysics, photonics, nanotechnology, advanced materials, artificial intelligence, biomedical applications, renewable energy, sustainable technologies, physics education and the physics-industry interface.

The conference was convened by Dr. Poonam Jain, Sri Aurobindo College, and Dr. Savita Sharma, Kalindi College, with Prof. Sushil Kumar, Hansraj College, also serving as Conference Convenor. The concluding session featured a Vote of Thanks by Prof. Sushil Kumar, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, delegates, participants, sponsors and organising teams for their contributions to the successful conduct of NCPTSD 2026. The conference concluded with a renewed emphasis on collaborative research, scientific excellence, innovation and sustainable technological development.
