New Delhi. : The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has announced a 40-week online Diploma Course in Teaching of Science at Middle Stage for the 2026-27 session. The programme is aimed at teachers and other individuals involved in Science education at the middle-school level, particularly those teaching Classes 6 to 8.
Registration for the fresh batch will begin on October 12, 2026, and candidates can enrol until November 12, 2026 through the NCERTX learning platform. The programme is scheduled to begin on November 16, 2026, and tentatively conclude on August 31, 2027.

Who Can Apply for the NCERT Science Teaching Diploma?
The programme is intended for a range of candidates involved in Science education. Eligible applicants include:
- Candidates holding a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree
- In-service teachers teaching Science to Classes 6 to 8
- Candidates with a diploma or degree in education
- Pre-service teachers pursuing a diploma or degree in education
- Other individuals directly involved in Science education

NCERT Diploma Course: 40 Modules Over 40 Weeks
The online programme will be delivered in a MOOC format and will consist of 40 modules. A new module will open every Monday.
Each module is expected to require approximately six to eight hours of study. The course uses multimedia-based and interactive learning material and is structured to develop participants' conceptual understanding of Science as well as their ability to teach the subject effectively.

Assessment and Final Examination

The module tests will remain open for 15 days, allowing learners to complete the assessments within the specified period. Candidates who complete all the modules and appear for all 40 tests will become eligible for the final examination.
The final examination will be a timed test, with its date to be announced separately.
NCERT Science Diploma Fee
The one-time enrolment fee for the programme is ₹2,000. Payment is to be made online.
After completing the payment, candidates will receive an invitation email from NCERTX, generally within a week, containing instructions for completing the enrolment process. Candidates have been advised to use the same email ID during payment and enrolment.
NCERT E-Certificate After Course Completion
Candidates who successfully complete the programme and fulfil the prescribed assessment requirements will receive an e-certificate titled “Teaching of Science at Middle Stage” from NCERT.
The course is intended to provide professional development and strengthen teaching skills for Science education at the middle-school level.
Important: Course Is Not a Teacher Recruitment Qualification
NCERT has clarified that the programme is an academic and professional development course. Completion of the diploma should not be treated as a qualification for teacher appointment.
