- Ms. Monica Singh: Social Worker, Cure India.
- Mr. Raby Singh: Self-employed individual and artist, Cure India.
This session will highlight the importance of empowering and including individuals with Down Syndrome. The focus on personal experience will help those who may struggle to understand what inclusion means outside of policy. By listening to individuals and families we can better understand the challenges they face in daily life.
Why is this topic important?
Inclusion is very important when looking at providing education, but it is also important that individuals have opportunities once they leave the classroom. Creating opportunities for individuals to develop new skills, become independent and engage with their community.
Creating opportunities for individuals with Down Syndrome to gain new skills and do meaningful work can build their confidence and independence. Family members, employers, teachers, support organisations and community members can all play a role in creating an environment for individuals to show off their abilities. This will be highlighted within the session and ties into the overall aim of the 5-day series to provide practical knowledge, acceptance and support.
