Jharkhand : Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren used an educational outreach event to urge the state’s youth to pursue higher education by leveraging the Guruji Student Credit Card Scheme, a financial assistance programme designed to ease access to college and university costs.
The scheme provides interest-free or low-interest loans for academic expenses including tuition, books, supplies, and skill development courses, with flexible repayment timelines tailored to student income post-completion of education. Officials explained that the credit card aims to break financial barriers that often discourage students from economically weaker sections from enrolling in higher education programmes.
Soren emphasised that expanding access to higher education, particularly in fields such as engineering, business, healthcare and technology will not only improve employment prospects for young people but also contribute to overall state development. Students were encouraged to apply early and take advantage of counselling and financial literacy sessions being offered alongside the scheme.
Education specialists noted that credit-based support systems like these are increasingly relevant as costs rise and competition for higher education grows. By coupling financial support with guidance on academic pathways, states are helping students make informed decisions about their futures.
