NEW DELHI: Aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the National Council of Educational Research and Training has announced a phased rollout of new textbooks and revised syllabi aimed at making school education more competency-based and student-centric. The move follows recommendations under the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023 and is part of a broader effort to modernise learning across grades.
According to the advisory, new textbooks for Classes 1 to 8 are already available in both print and digital formats. For Class 9, revised textbooks are currently under development and are expected to be introduced from the academic session 2026–27, with draft syllabi made available for public feedback. Meanwhile, the new textbooks for Classes 10 and 11 will be implemented from 2027–28, and existing books will continue for these classes during the 2026–27 academic year to ensure a smooth transition.
NCERT has also advised teachers to focus on strengthening students’ foundational knowledge before introducing the revised curriculum. The transition aims to enhance conceptual understanding, reduce rote learning, and align education with future skills. Authorities have urged all stakeholders to take note of the changes and ensure effective implementation as India moves toward a more learner-focused education system.
