NCERT Has Welcomed 12 M.Ed Students For A Four-Week Internship Aligned To NEP 2020, ITEP And Teacher Education
NCERT's Department of Teacher Education has welcomed 12 M.Ed students from the second year of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University, Delhi, for a four-week internship to familiarise future teacher educators with education policy and innovative and contemporary practices in teacher education.
The internship will be conducted from 7th September to 5th October 2026, with the commencement of the programme at the NIE Auditorium in the Janaki Ammal Block at NCERT, New Delhi. The timing of the internship is relevant to the students. It is now that they get to know about the institutions and policies that are evolving in the area of teacher education in India.
NCERT Department of Teacher Education Conducts Four-Week Internship For M.Ed Students
The first day of the programme was an orientation session conducted by Prof. Sharad Sinha, Head of the Department of Teacher Education, NCERT. During the orientation, students were acquainted with the various initiatives taken by NCERT and were made aware of the various expectations for the internships. The sessions were also meant to discuss some of the issues and challenges faced in the field of education and also about the evolving role of teacher educators.
This type of exposure during the preparation of M.Ed students for a professional role in teacher education also enables students to understand the interrelationship and interaction of educational policies and practices within and outside the institutions of higher learning. Teacher Education, which is the prime concern of NCERT, will further strengthen the goal of teacher education and preparation through various innovations.
Sessions Cover NEP 2020, ITEP and Innovative Practices
Part one of the opening-day program showcased some of the aspects of current teacher education. Dr. Jitendra Kumar Patidar described the duties and activities of the Department of Teacher Education and, in the process, guided the students in comprehending the office where they would be undertaking their internships. Dr. Virender Kumar Chandoriya conducted a session on NEP 2020 and the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP). This was followed by a session on innovative practices in teacher education conducted by Dr. Chetna Pandey.
Together, these sessions familiarised the interns with the relations among education policy, innovation and teaching preparation. These are the three areas that are getting more integrated in the Indian education system with the implementation of the National Education Policy.
NCF-SE 2023 Comes Into the Classroom
The opening day consisted of an activity-based session on NCF-SE 2023 conducted by Dr. Nimisha Beri. Instead of perceiving the framework as a policy document only, an activity-based session encourages the students to appreciate how principles of curriculum get transformed into teaching methods.
The teaching methodology of future teacher educators derives meaning from the policies of the education sector and the classroom practices that touch their teaching profession.
Preparing Future Teacher Educators for A Changing Education System
Given the changes in the education system, one focus of the internship is the changing role of teacher educators. Contemporary teacher educators must do more than teach the established teaching methods. They must be knowledgeable about changes in policy and curricula, about different kinds of learners, about innovations in pedagogy and technology.
The various strands of the internship address professional preparation in relation to:
- Education policy and reforms
- Theory and educational practice

The internship will continue until October 5, 2026, allowing the 12 M.Ed. students the longer engagement with the NCERT teacher education environment. The program has been conducted by Dr. Aruna Kumari, DTE, NCERT. For the interns, this provides a unique kind of classroom; one where education policy, curriculum, research, professional development, and teacher education intersect.
