NBEMS Announces NEET PG 2026 and NEET MDS 2026 Exam Dates; Delhi HC Upholds Cut Off Policy

NBEMS has released the tentative exam dates for NEET PG 2026 and NEET MDS 2026 along with internship cut-off deadlines. Delhi High Court dismisses PIL on NEET PG 2025 cut-off reduction.

New Delhi: The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has officially released the tentative examination schedule for NEET PG 2026 and NEET MDS 2026, providing crucial timelines for postgraduate medical and dental aspirants across the country.

The announcement brings clarity for candidates preparing for MD, MS, PG Diploma, and MDS admissions, even as legal scrutiny over admission policies continues. Recently, the Delhi High Court upheld the government’s decision to lower the qualifying cut-off for NEET PG 2025, reinforcing the existing admission framework.

NEET MDS 2026: Exam Date and Eligibility Criteria

As per the NBEMS notification, NEET MDS 2026 is scheduled to be conducted on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

  • Internship completion deadline: May 31, 2026
  • Mode of examination: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
  • Exam centres: Designated centres across India

Candidates seeking admission to postgraduate dental programmes must complete their compulsory rotatory internship on or before the specified cut-off date to be eligible.

NEET PG 2026: Tentative Schedule Released

For medical graduates aspiring to pursue MD, MS, or PG Diploma courses, NEET PG 2026 has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday, August 30, 2026.

  • Internship cut-off date: September 30, 2026
  • Mode of examination: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
  • Scope: Nationwide

NBEMS clarified that only candidates who meet the internship completion criteria will be allowed to appear for the examination.

NEET PG Remains the Sole Entrance Exam for PG Medical Admissions

NBEMS reiterated that NEET PG is the single, mandatory entrance examination for admission to MD, MS, and PG Diploma programmes across India. No state government, private institution, or university is permitted to conduct separate entrance tests for these courses.

However, a limited number of institutions governed by specific legislative frameworks continue to follow their own admission procedures, as permitted by law.

Delhi High Court Dismisses PIL on NEET PG 2025 Cut-Off Reduction

In a related development, the Delhi High Court dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the government’s decision to reduce qualifying cut-off marks for NEET PG 2025.

The petitioner had raised concerns that lowering the cut-off could compromise the quality of medical specialists and endanger patient safety.

A bench comprising Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyay and Justice Tejas Karia observed that postgraduate medical education is designed to enhance specialised skills rather than evaluate a doctor’s basic competence. The court also noted that unfilled postgraduate seats could negatively impact the healthcare system, justifying the policy decision.

What This Means for Aspirants

With the NEET PG 2026 and NEET MDS 2026 schedules now announced, candidates can plan their preparation strategies well in advance. At the same time, the Delhi High Court’s ruling strengthens the government’s approach toward ensuring optimal utilisation of postgraduate medical seats while maintaining educational standards.

These developments highlight continued efforts to balance uniform admissions, quality medical education, and the nation’s healthcare needs.
