National Science Seminar 2026 Theme

The theme of the event is “Indian Energy Basket 2047: Prospects and Challenges”. This will encourage students to think about how they can meet the needs of energy in India. This theme is looking at the various sources of energy and how students can identify the opportunities and challenges of creating a reliable and sustainable energy mix.

When planning energy, there are many factors to consider such as increasing demand, reliable supply, using resources more efficiently and being environmentally friendly. This makes it relevant to students who are interested in science, technology, sustainability and how India will develop in the future.

As this is a national theme, it will allow students to connect science to real world issues. Students’ presentations will show their research, logical thinking and ability to explain complex ideas.

National Level Event

This national level event will see winners from competitions held in States and Union Territories. As stated on the Nehru Science Centre website, the event is aimed at students in Classes VIII-X. Students will move through multiple stages within their school or block, district and State/Union Territory before progressing to the national level.

This will give students from different areas the opportunity to share their views. It will also provide an opportunity to see how students will approach the same scientific question from different perspectives. A national winner will be announced during the valedictory session.

Why is this important for school students?

Science competitions can help students to develop skills that go beyond exam based learning. Students will need to research, analyse, structure arguments and present their findings. This requires them to have a good understanding of science and communication. The National Science Seminar will provide students with the opportunity to practice these skills whilst researching about a topic relating to India’s development.

The theme of 2047 is very important as decisions around energy will affect many aspects of our lives such as industry, transport, infrastructure and environmental sustainability. By encouraging school students to think about these connections, it can help to encourage scientific curiosity and analytical thinking at an early age. It can also provide teachers and schools with an opportunity to recognise students’ research.
