Bengaluru : The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) has launched a new centre for studying the Rule of Law through a partnership with TrustBridge, a non-profit organization that works to improve law to increase economic growth and make fair and efficient markets.

The centre will also be focusing on rule of law in two key areas: financial markets and government litigations and contracting. The work done at the centre will evaluate the drafting of subordinate legislation and enforcement processes in pensions, insurance, capital markets, banking and bankruptcy with a viewpoint of evaluating the impact on economic outcomes. It will also analyze the reasons for government litigation and how it can be made more efficient. The centre also believes it will be the first to document the role the rule of law plays in shaping economic outcomes and wants to build a foundation for a good regulatory environment to create a well-functioning economy.

The centre will be operated by an executive committee and an advisory board. The executive committee will supervise centre objectives, outcome and impact measurement, hiring personnel, raising funds and creating new projects. The advisory board will advise on new projects to help the centre’s vision come true and will provide intellectual advice on knowledge creation activities of the centre.

The new centre will be a five-year-long initiative and will study the rule of law from the viewpoint of how to improve the functioning of India’s markets, economy and business and will be located on the NLSIU campus in Bangalore.
