National Law School honours late veteran lawyer Shri N.T. Vanamamalai with scholarship

This scholarship is sponsored by Vanamamalai's daughter Akola Krishnan and his nephew Prashanth Venkatesh (NLS BA LLB, 2003).

 

 

Bengaluru : The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) is honouring late veteran criminal lawyer and senior advocate Shri N.T. Vanamamalai with a scholarship named after him called the Shri N.T. Vanamamalai Scholarship. This scholarship is sponsored by Vanamamalai's daughter Akola Krishnan and his nephew Prashanth Venkatesh (NLS BA LLB, 2003). It will cover the annual fee of one or more students admitted to NLSIU for a consecutive period of five years and will cover hostel and mess hall fees, along with tuition and facilities fees.

Akola stated that this scholarship was created to preserve the memory of her father whose aim was to help those who were oppressed and had no voice of their own and hopes that students will follow her father’s example of holding themselves to high ethical standards, professionally and personally, and follow in his footsteps of civic engagement, integrity and pursuing excellence.

Shri N.T. Vanamamalai (also known as NTV) was an activist and lawyer from Tamil Nadu who had practised law for 50 years. He was also a member of the Communist Party of India (CPI). Throughout his career, he wished to help those who were underprivileged and those who sought social justice received his services pro bono (for free). He also mentored many respected judges and senior advocates. He died in 2006 at the age of 84.
