Nagaland University Starts ICAR Course on Climate Smart Agriculture

Nagaland University has launched a 10-day ICAR-sponsored course on climate-smart agriculture at its Medziphema campus

Medziphema: Nagaland University has inaugurated a 10-day ICAR-sponsored short course on “Climate-Smart Agriculture: Tools and Techniques for Biotic and Abiotic Stress Management” at its Medziphema campus.

The programme is being organised by the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding under the School of Agricultural Sciences, with support from the Agricultural Education Division of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and will run till March 27, 2026.

Speaking at the inauguration, Course Director H. P. Chaturvedi emphasised the urgent need to address climate change through sustainable agricultural practices. He highlighted that the programme focuses on productivity, adaptation, and mitigation, aiming to equip agricultural professionals with modern tools to tackle challenges such as drought, heat stress, and floods.

The event was attended by Chief Guest V. K. Vidyarthi, along with senior faculty members including K. K. Jha. The dignitaries underscored the importance of adopting climate-resilient strategies to ensure sustainable agricultural development.

The course includes expert lectures, technical sessions, and field-based learning, providing participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical exposure. Sessions covered key topics such as integrated disease management, climate change impacts on food security, and adaptive agricultural strategies.

Officials stated that the initiative aims to strengthen the capabilities of scientists, academicians, and researchers in addressing climate-related agricultural challenges while promoting sustainable and resilient farming practices.
