Nagaland has taken a significant step toward strengthening student support by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Sarojini Damodaran Foundation to implement the Vidyadhan Scholarship Programme. The agreement was formalised in Kohima and is aimed at supporting students from government schools who have recently passed their Class 10 examinations. The scholarship initiative provides financial assistance of ₹10,000 per year for students in Classes 11 and 12, while those pursuing higher education can receive support ranging from ₹25,000 to ₹75,000 annually depending on their course.
Beyond financial aid, the programme stands out for its comprehensive approach. Selected students will receive mentoring, career counselling, soft skills training, and internship opportunities, creating a more holistic pathway for academic and professional growth. The Vidyadhan Scholarship Programme, which began in 1999, is already operational across multiple states and has supported thousands of students nationwide. Its introduction in Nagaland is expected to widen access to higher education, particularly for students from economically constrained backgrounds.
Officials have highlighted that the initiative will complement existing government schemes and is designed to provide long term support, often continuing for five to seven years from Class 11 through graduation. With applications open through the Vidyadhan portal and deadlines set for the coming months, the programme is positioned to create new academic opportunities and strengthen educational continuity for students across the state.
