Mumbai University Reschedules Semester Exams Following Heavy Rains

The University of Mumbai has rescheduled semester exams for third-year Bachelor of Arts (TYBA) students in response to heavy rains and waterlogging in the city. The revised timetable includes new dates for various papers.

Mumbai: In the wake of heavy rains and waterlogging that disrupted normal life in the city, the University of Mumbai has announced the rescheduling of semester exams that were earlier postponed. The affected exams include the third-year Bachelor of Arts (TYBA) semester five papers and some remaining assessments. The decision comes after the university cancelled all exams that were initially scheduled for July 20.

According to the revised timetable, the third-year BA semester five papers, except for subjects with codes 3A00135 and 3A0014, which were originally slated for July 20, will now be conducted on July 26. Meanwhile, the third-year BA semester five papers, excluding subjects 3A00135 and 3A00145, previously scheduled for July 26, will now take place on July 28. All other remaining papers, initially planned for July 20, have been pushed back to July 31. Notably, the venue and timing for the examinations will remain unchanged.

The decision to reschedule the exams came amidst the challenges posed by incessant rainfall in the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an 'orange' alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad districts, forecasting severe to heavy rainfall in isolated spots. The city has been grappling with traffic bottlenecks, waterlogged roads, and delayed local train services over the past few days.

Mumbai University's recent announcement also follows the release of results for the third-year BCom fifth semester exams. The results revealed that out of approximately 36,105 final years BCom students who took the repeat exam in April-May 2023, only 16,782 of them managed to pass all the papers, resulting in a success percentage of 51.36%. However, the pass rate was significantly lower for the regular fifth-semester exam, with only 34.25% of students passing.

Amidst the challenges faced by students due to the subjective question pattern of exams, the university is working to streamline the exam process while ensuring the safety and convenience of the students. The revised exam dates are expected to provide much-needed relief to the affected students.

Students can access the updated schedule and other information on the official university website, https://mu.ac.in/. It is crucial for all affected students to stay informed and prepare accordingly for the rescheduled exams.

The University of Mumbai remains committed to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring a fair assessment for all students during these challenging times. As the city continues to battle heavy rains, the university's efforts to provide a conducive exam environment are appreciated by the student community.
