The "Learn while Earn Scheme", A pragmatic initiative, was recently developed by the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE) with the aim to empower less privileged youths by offering them the opportunity to pursue education while simultaneously gaining valuable work experience.

Mumbai: In a significant move towards fulfilling the Prime Minister's National Skill Development Mission and addressing the rising demand for skilled human resources in various industries, the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE) has unveiled a pioneering policy, "Learn while Earn" Scheme. This unique and innovative initiative aims to provide less privileged and eligible youths with the opportunity to pursue their education while simultaneously working.

The scheme was developed in response to the nationwide problem of high dropout rates after matriculation, mainly driven by socio-economic conditions in the community, limited access to information, and a lack of technical education facilities in rural areas and small towns. These factors have resulted in a relatively low gross enrollment ratio. However, MSBTE, with the invaluable guidance of industry experts, has created a range of Industry-Oriented skilled-based short-term diploma courses that are approved by the State Government.

Objectives of the Learn while Earn Scheme:

1. Empower students to continue their education while earning a living.

2. Mitigate the shortage of skilled manpower faced by various industries.

3. Provide industries with a pool of skilled manpower by implementing the scheme.

4. Assist the government in achieving the goals of the National Skill Development Program of India.

5. Offer opportunities for upskilling to employees already working in the industry.

Salient Features of the Scheme:

The Learn while Earn Scheme has several noteworthy features:

1. Industry Involvement:

The scheme directly involves industries in the technical education process, promoting better alignment between academic learning and practical industry requirements.

2. On-Job Training:

Students selected for the program will have access to on-the-job training opportunities, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience.

3. Financial Support:

Eligible students enrolled in the scheme will receive financial support through fees or stipends provided by the partnering industries.

The Learn while Earn Scheme is set to positively impact the lives of many young individuals, offering them a chance to pursue higher education while gaining practical work experience. Furthermore, the direct involvement of industries will bridge the skills gap and contribute significantly to the nation's economic growth.
