BHOPAL, MADHYA PRADESH: In a major reform aimed at making exams more student-friendly, the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) has introduced a ‘Second Examination’ system, replacing the traditional supplementary exams for Classes 10 and 12. Under the new approach, students will now get another opportunity to improve their performance within the same academic year, instead of waiting months for a separate supplementary exam.
As per the revised schedule, the second exams for 2026 will begin from May 7, with Class 10 exams continuing till May 19 and Class 12 exams till May 25. This allows students who did not perform well in the main exams to quickly reappear and improve their scores without delaying their academic progress. The key objective behind this change is to reduce academic pressure and dropout rates. Earlier, students who failed or wanted to improve marks had to wait for supplementary exams, often losing valuable time. With the new system, students can attempt the exam again much sooner, ensuring continuity in their education journey.
Key Changes for Students
- Supplementary exams abolished, replaced by ‘Second Exam’ system
- Second exams start from May 7, 2026
- Same syllabus and pattern as main board exams
- Chance to improve marks or pass within the same year
- Faster results and academic progression
Education experts believe this reform aligns with the broader goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes flexibility and multiple opportunities for students. For learners, this means less stress, more chances to perform better, and no loss of an academic year due to one setback. Overall, the move is being seen as a positive shift towards a more student-centric and flexible examination system, helping students stay motivated and focused on long-term academic success.
